Deboer was the first choice all along, despite what the trolls on this board insist. Byrne was in a Seattle hotel room hours after Saban retired. But somehow a few on this board think Lanning would have been a better candidate even though he has never beaten Deboer. Deboar is a damn good coach, this board will learn the hard way

Jimmy Sexton is great at his job but Norvell didn't get bumped to $10 million a year unless Bama was legit trying to hire him. You really think the admin would rather have the guy from the west coast who's never recruited the south over a guy who's shown that he can recruit elite HS and portal players all over the south including the deep ties he's made in Florida? Come on dude

Norvell had just taken a 60 point shellacking in his bowl game, I don't believe he was ever seriously considered. We will never know whether he was offered or not, but it seems strange that Byrne would be offering the job to Norvell, from a hotel room in Seattle while meeting with Deboer. If he had wanted Norvell, why not go after him, instead of flying to Seattle

I think Lanning was 1st choice, DeBoer 2nd. Not getting our first choice worked out pretty well last time.

bullshite.

You think it was just a coincidence that every Coach mentioned during the hiring process was a Sexton client, and the one we hired just happened to be silent & the only one without constant rumors, and he just happened to be announced after everyone else got a pay raise?

Please. DeBoer was the only choice. Sexton told Byrne to wait until he got new contracts for his top clients, and that’s what he did.

Bama fans and boosters would have rioted if Norvell was the guy. Nobody wanted him.

I would bet that Lanning was 1st choice, Norvell 2nd choice. Lanning with Bama ties. Norvell extensive recruiting expertise in the South due to his Memphis and FSU background.

Lanning is a good recruiter, but he has an 0-3 record against DeBoer even with the talent advantage.

Norvell is fools gold.

This just shows you know nothing about Jimmy.

All he had to do was hint Bama might be interested and that X raise would keep him in Tallahassee and the admins would have hurt themselves trying to ink a raise and extension for him.

We have WAY too much experience with him and that tactic.

If that joke of a bowl game somehow made Norvell a lesser coach in y'all's eyes then I'm glad we didn't lose by a field goal

The Question is what Idiot doesn't believe that Alabama didn't know that Saban was leaving weeks before he announced it?

I don’t think eve Saban knew, he was reported to have been interviewing for a defensive coach opening a few mins before he announced his retirement to the team

Only some are. But nobody would have made some of them happy, cause they bitched we didn’t win the title every year when we had the GOAT.

Anyone who judges a coach's overall ability by a single game result here or there is a casual.

But let's be honest, the majority of this board has no ability to properly judge a coach.

49 hrs, right? What idiot believes that?

It does not take long to say "not interested"

Their first choice was 100% Lanning as we all know.

Sark immediately said he's not leaving Texas.

Norvell passed too after his restructuring.

You re a complete fool if you think a no-name coach from South Dakota who has zero ties to the SEC was their first choice to replace a legend like Saban. It just not true.

It's already proven to be a horrible decision as this mass exodus continues. Sorry
