Now I'm going to come across as arguing just for the sake of arguing ... but media/corporates can fly into any large airport. Atlanta doesn't hold a monopoly on air travel.
Until Texas A&M contributes anything to SEC basketball, I think I should bow out of this thread.

I'm not sure how the flying vs. driving thing plays into this conversation, or at least the argument to move things away from Atlanta. As far as flights and air travel accessibility Atlanta > NO. Really Atlanta > any city in the country.

Florida has had enough basketball success to build up better support than that. There are times when I think BD would be dissatisfied with the level of appreciation for his teams and his levels of success.
I'm pretty sure that is a section that no one really sits in, it is behind the temporary bleachers.
Anyway, Home attendance has been great for UF. I think UF has averaged above 100% capacity in SEC games during something like 6 out of the last 8 years. There was only 2 games not at capacity this year and those were during school breaks. The culture has started to change at UF.
I don't know how many people made the trip, maybe they are waiting for the NCAA tournament where we are expected to make a deep run. I expect tons of Gator fans at each of the UF sites like during the back-to-back title years.
FWIW, it looks like the same seats are empty in this game that were empty in the game before.

Really ought to move it to Atlanta. In 2015 we will have this big ole Turner Field with nobody playing there.

Yeah, but I have been on planes with the likes of Fudgepacker and Mustyboogers and they were flying commercial not private. The support guys fly commercial and they are the volume part of the equation. Top brass corporate can fly private, but rank and file fly commercial.

No, being part of the discussion is good. No need to bow out, just hear what is being said and hopefully your points / questions get answered.

I was referring to commercial flight, not private.
You've answered many questions--I appreciate it.
Until we (TAMU) take basketball seriously and show an institutional commitment to the sport, we don't have much skin in the "location" game.

I can appreciate your thoughts but TAMU women could make a claim if they start to travel better. Seems TAMU has at least made a commitment to win in that part of the equation.

That's purely the result of a winning hire in Gary Blair.
And regardless of what happened at Kentucky, Billy Gillispie was hugely successful in Aggieland.
He brought about an unprecedented fever for men's basketball--even if only briefly.
Turgeon & Kennedy, however, have been complete misfires.
Short of our AD opening up the pocketbook and hiring a coaching phenom who ... oh, by the way ... is willing to play in an empty arena, we're going to hurt.
It's a cultural thing.
But winning can change it--I'm convinced (we've seen it).

Agreed, TX is a football first state, KY is a basketball first. Exception is with the women as the one thing the B1g 12 did right was win in the Big 12 with the women. Baylor in 05 & 12, Texas in 86, Texas Tech in 93, and Texas A&M in 11 have all won at least 1 NC.

The issue is winning from generation so you have at least a base of positive to draw from.

Air access is better out of Memphis than Birmingham only in regards to direct flight to other parts of the country. For the sake of cities in the SEC footprint, they are basically the same. Birmingham has daily non-stops to Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, New Orleans, Orlando, Charlotte, Jacksonville, Tampa, Nashville, Louisville, and Saint Louis which Memphis also has so air travel for the sake of the Southeast U.S. is the same. As for media, the Birmingham TV market is actually larger than Memphis.
There are many reasons Memphis would be a great host for baseball (the facility in Memphis being the biggest reason) but the fact that only LSU, Ole Miss, and maybe on occasion one other school complains about it being in Hoover while every other school likes it there is the reason it probably won't be moving for a long time. The tournament has been wildly successful in Hoover and until that changes there won't be a rush to move it.

A lot of our fans were in the upper dome, mostly students. I know a lot were hoping to buy tickets from Kentucky fans for tomorrow (if UGA won). TBH, doubt most of our fans traveled to Atlanta...outside of students, the Gator fans there might be Atlanta natives.

For the record, I kinda like the idea of an Atlanta/New Orleans rotation for the SEC championship game. I like the Georgia Dome better than the Super Dome but New Orleans is the better host city.

I'm willing to bet the gouging isn't as bad as it may seem.
Try to get a NCAA ticket to the Final Four from Missouri and see what you have to pay for the hotel room to buy it. All this is blessed by the NCAA and is pretty bad. If I am paying 800 a night with a 4 night min, it better come stocked with hookers and blow.

As long as the SEC Champion is tied to the Sugar Bowl, they should not host both games.

Super Dome
Okay to watch a football game, terrible to watch a basketball game.

I just find the Georgia Dome to be more comfortable than the Super Dome. I like the open air concessions and it feels much more roomy. Someone also needs to tell the Super Dome staff it's ok to run the AC when it's 75 degrees in early January outside. It was awfully stuffy in there.

Selling out 12K at home is nothing to brag about. Vanderbilt was putting more in their venue when Kennedy was in office.

Move basketball and baseball to Memphis. Come enjoy our awesome food. Hangout on Beale Street. Plus the new ridiculous Pyramid/Bass Pro Shop will be done in a year or two. A lot of SEC fans would love that place.
