...should games - especially in the south - be scheduled for night?

The Bama vs TAMU game will be 93 at game time. That means it will be at least 110 on the field.

That seems awful dangerous for players AND fans. I realize players have access to mist blowers and whatnot, but temps in the 100s seem much more dangerous than kickoffs and leading with the crown of your helmet.

It would completely screw the TV schedules, but I don't disagree. I have zero interest in sitting in Jordan Hare for a 12:00 or 3:30 game before October.

I agree but it doesn’t seem to be an actual issue for guys that train in it and are properly hydrated by a professional staff.

Did the LSU-Auburn game see any issues from the heat? Seems like both teams played 100% without excess injuries.

That would directly affect tv times and revenue. they aren't going to affect revenue under any circumstances even if people are heat stroking out in front of the camera.

There is nothing worse than an 11am game.

I'm all for it, the past 2 LSU/Auburn games were hot as hell.

It's more an issue for the fatasses in the stands than it is for the athletes on the field.

Or we could just not start the season until mid-late September, like we did when I was a kid and dinosaurs roamed the Earth.

Jesus dude we grew up in South LA playing football and soccer games at the crack of noon in the dead of summer. No problem for 9-16 year olds. But yeh, these highly trained and conditioned athletes are gonna hurt themselves out there cause it's so hot. It hasn't been a problem the last 100 years, but now it will be since you brought it up.

If the sun is beating down, the temperature at field level is going to be higher than the air temperature. It'll be over 100 degrees on the field.

Were you playing 3 and a half hour games?

When's the last time you saw a real college game stopped or a player sidelined with a heat stroke? And I 'aint talking about practice, that's totally different conditions.

In games you get regular breaks, plenty of water, plenty of cooling and sitting. You have to be mindful of the heat, sure, but it isn't a 'safety issue'. It's just a 'man this sucks' issue.

Literally, and very specifically, said I'm not talking about practice.

Game, give me a game situation when this happened. Games are very different from practice.

The Swamp is a nightmare for game days. It's the most miserable experience possible. You have to love your team to death to sit on metal bleachers in 110 feels like with no wind and no shade. Oh it's brutal..yet I'll still go. Because...Go Gators.

We didn’t have injuries but LSU players were going down fast on defense late in the game due to cramps

According to this article...

quote:

Wooster football player Clayton Geib, 21, died on Sept. 18, just two days after he was rushed to the hospital from the locker room following a football game.

According to a 911 call, Geib was cramping and hyperventilating in the locker room. He was rushed to the hospital, and his family told 10TV by Sunday, he had no brain activity.

The Wayne County Coroner was not called to do an autopsy. Wednesday 10TV obtained his death certificate from the Wayne County Health Department. The official cause of death is listed as a cerebral edema and brain death. His manner of death is listed as natural.

Three contributing factors are listed: Acute Respiratory Failure, Hypoxemia and Acute Kidney Injury. Hypoxemia, according to webMD.com is a lack of oxygen in the blood. A cerebral edema is excess accumulation of fluid in spaces of the brain.

I can definitely see heat being a factor in that.
