Since H2H doesn't matter, why not just crown the 1 seed of the CFP the National Champs?

There's no need to settle it on the field, whoever is ranked #1 based on resume should be the national champions. That's essentially what I'm hearing from the gumps

As a matter of fact, does Bama even deserve to make the CFP over Georgia if they win the SEC CG? Losing to Bama is apparently better than losing to Texas

How is Bama beating Georgia but UGA being ranked higher in the CFP any different from Bama being ranked higher than Texas?

Week 2 v conference championship game.

I hate the idea that fans of Texas that ask such stupid questions are actually joining the SEC! Even an 11 year old SEC fan knows the answer to that ridiculous question.

It’s your fanbase that keeps screaming this narrative. Maybe had Bama actually won the game they wouldn’t have to cry about it on the message boards. SEC champ or not, you lost the HTH.

I actually wouldn't mind this. It's the way we did it for decades until ESPN came along.

Stating a fact is racist? I must’ve missed where he mentioned ethnicity.

This is the most ridiculous, flame just to flame, trolling SEC site among the fanbases; yet, a cursory review of most fan responses here shows support for a 1-loss UTx, conference champ over a 1-loss Bama Conference champ.

I do wish UTx could have handled the soft middle of their schedule a bit more easily. It helped build the eye test narrative for Oregon. Should have been UTx at 6 and Bama at 7 with Oregon at 8.

But, UTx couldn't jump Oregon due to the level of play, and Bama was stuck because of the UTx head to head loss.

That said, in terms of resume, I think UTx has the best SoR and SoS among all contenders, so I'm not sure what you're complaining about other than to project insecurities.

If it is between Alabama and Texas, then Alabama should get in. Alabama has played tougher competition. Alabama has dominated their schedule since losing to Texas. The Horns lost later. Timing also matters. If Alabama and Texas win next weekend, Alabama will have a way better resume win.

Head-to-head doesn’t matter. It didn’t matter in 1993 when Notre Dame beat Florida State in the regular season. Noles won the consensus national title.

USC defeated Alabama early in 1978. Alabama won out and USC lost later in conference play. Alabama and USC would share the national title.

2008 Texas defeated Oklahoma in October. Texas Tech defeated Texas in late November. OU continued to dominate their schedule. Sooners had a higher BCS ranking and played for the national title.

2011 LSU defeated Alabama in a close affair. The rematch happened instead of LSU getting the nod over Alabama.

If Alabama and Texas played right now, home or away, Alabama would win. We have seen Texas a few times this season barely close out weaker opponents. Kansas State and Houston made idiotic, late game decisions to lose the game rather than Texas making the plays to win the games.

The committee isn’t looking at SOS or SOR hence Oregon being at 6. They’ve honored the HTH all season.

Championships won

Strength of schedule

Head-to-head competition (if it occurred)

Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory)

Those are the criteria. Texas is close to Bama on SOS and SOR. HTH goes to Texas.

That's how it was done when we only played 8 games per season

Week 1, Texas was up by 8 on Rice at halftime. Milroe threw 5 TDs in their cupcake blowout. Your eye test is faulty and irrelevant.

1978 and 1993, before they actually had a playoff (be it 2 team or 4 team) isn't really relevant. 2008 was a three-way tie. Someone had to go. OU got lucky. 2011 also has zero applicability here because Alabama wasn't competing with LSU for the last spot in the BCS title game; they were competing with Oklahoma State.

Basically you made bad, irrelevant post that makes zero sense. You'd have been better just to say you're an OU fan that doesn't want Texas in the CFP.
