Who meant more to their respective Universities: Mike Shula to Alabama as a player/coach or Gene Chizik to Auburn as a coach?

The Chiz

Gene cheated (major) and got away with it (NC)

Shula racked up a couple of infractions (minor) and we got hammered.

And before any jackwagon decides to jackwagon, I'm aware of Chizik's alma mater. Answer the question like you're grown people.

Chizik. If he are counting Shula's days as a bama qb, then we have to count Chizik's time as a DC and his contributions to two undefeated seasons.

Shula did give bama one of if not their biggest IB wins ever in 1985 and was a pretty good qb, so that counts for something as well.

Dumb question is dumb.

Chizik brought Auburn a Heisman winner and a BCS championship.

Mike Shula lost to Auburn 5 straight times and merely served as a interim while Alabama weathered probation and sanctions.

All of that is fair, tiger n Miami. We'll count Chizik's years as DC. But his HC gets a lot of credit for the years he's a DC. Or else we're giving Auburn's DC in 2010 credit for part of Chizik winning the NC.

You feeling inadequate in your loyalties regarding the question posed, crimsontideMD? Chizik wasn't that much better than Shula was he?

Chizik was a bad coach on the field, but he brought in the talent that made 2010 possible. I don't even know where to start with Shula. He just never had a chance.

That's easy. They both ran their teams into the ground but Chizik won a national championship before running it into the ground, Shula didnt do shite.

Shula will barely be remembered in a generation.

Chizik is going down in the history books with the likes of Larry Coker as worst coaches to ever win a title.

In common, both coach/coached Cameron.

Chizik's Diddy ain't got no steak restaurant.

And I approve "gotta stop the inside trap" as a summation of the Shula years.
