Well, Brandon Harris transferred. Crazy, I know. And Orgeron has to play the hand he was dealt this year. Can't really build depth at the QB position in one offseason

Not to make excuses for them, but this was a pretty consistent reason as to why Les was axed

They were right to move on from Les but I didn't know their QB situation was that perilous. That's a horror story.

How many QBs is LSU taking in this year's recruiting class?

Hence all their excitement for Danny Etling.

Took 3 in '17 (McMillan transferred out, leaving Brennan and Narcisse).

Looks like they have their sights on at least two in '18:
(Justin Fields, 5*, Kennesaw, GA)
(Gerry Bohanon, 4*, Earle, AR)

Canada's offense is going to attract better QB prospects.

HS Pro-style QB prospects, the kind the Les appealed to, have to be the biggest gamble in college football

They have no chance with Justin Fields.

Honestly in his first year he was. In fact, every first year OC under Les had a good offense. Kinda says something, doesn't it?

I wasn't referring to success chance, just offers made. Fields will probably be smart and go with Fisher. Makes me wish we had hired Jimbo that much more.

I just noticed that Fields is at Harrison HS where I graduated. Wow...

Gotcha. Yeah, the target schools for Justin Fields seems pretty much established. It will be one of the 4 schools he's considering. I'm hoping Auburn but not optimistic.

McMillan didn't transfer, nor was he a 2017 recruit. Lindsey Scott transferred, but he was a 2016 recruit that redshirted last year. McMillan is a RS Sophomore and a 2015 recruit and also still on the team.

Should LSU be worried about BYU?

Any team should be "worried" in that, talent discrepancy or not, BYU is a disciplined and hard-fighting team. This will not be an easy game more than likely, at least up to a point. It should be fun to watch. Let's enjoy.

jack you don't know jack

LSU "D" held the mighty tide to their lowest YPC avg of all their SEC and post season opponents. It took bama 50+ rushes to get to 200 yards.

LSU totally out rushed auburn. LSU avg almost 7 YPC. Only one team held auburn to a lower YPC avg then what LSU did.

Wiscy did rush for more yards than LSU but, they ran it a bunch more times. Tigers had a better YPC avg.

Familiar with these nola names Debo Jones and Duke Riley? Well Donnie Alexander will be this year's version of a first time Sr starting LB from the nola area to have an all conference type season.

As for the "O". LSU faced four common opponents with bama after EdO took over with Ensminger as OC.

With the same players and just a little imagination the LSU "O" put up more yards on all four of those teams than what bama did. Imagine that.

Believe the tiger "D" actually held two of them to less points than the tide. Imagine that.

You can pass that same message about LSU's secondary to all the other gumps. bama doesn't either. tide hasn't signed a 5* DB in it's last two classes. Imagine that.

Don't know of a single "Herbert" that played for LSU. My bad just remembered "Herb" Tyler. Guess his true first name might have been "Herbert".

Didn't read all 8 pages, but I think we should definitely be worried.

1st game with new offense. Sure we can run the ball, but our WRs are inexperienced and our Tackles are average at best.

Our defense will be solid but not if they're on the field for most of the game.

We LSU fans love to overhype everyone to the point where it sucks the enjoyment out of a successful season for most fans. There will be some growing pains, But I'm just happy to watch a team not coached by Miles.

That's not a good matchup for LSU given their QB issues.

What quarterback issues, CharlotteSissy, are you talking about? We don't have any quarterback issues. Last season Etling was one of the best quarterbacks for LSU since 2007. It was Brandon Harris and Less Miles fans that started that rumor, but it's not true.

In addition, Etling is going to be quite a bit better this season, as last season he played with a hurt back and at times couldn't even feel his left leg. Not to mention, that he could only throw with his arm because using his body was painful. After surgery in the off season, he is almost back to 100 percent today and all the coaches and the players say it is very evident in his mobility and in the velocity, the accuracy, and the consistency of his passes. He's also much more confident than he was last year as well.

Their weakness is their secondary.

We don't have any weakness in our backfield. We are DBU University. We simply reload. Both corners are former five stars and both corners are very experienced and have a ton of starts between them. In fact, both corners will be drafted high next April. Not to mention, that our nickel back had 8 tackles and 3 tackles for a loss in last Saturday's scrimmage against the ones. In addition, our pass rush, unlike last season, will be off the charts.

Nonetheless, you are right, no one is going to run on us this season or next season, as we are loaded to the gills in the front seven.

Byu's LB Francis Bernard is out. He had 80 tackles, 2 sacks and 3 ints last season. Byu was 9th in the nation against the run last year and they return 4 d lineman with starting experience. Offensive line is younger but deeper led by center Tejan Koroma who is an Outland trophy nominee. They also have soph Shoaf back who started 9 games as a freshman and he made one all American team. They will have to protect a straight drop back passer in Magnum instead of dual threat Tayson Hill. They averaged over 200 yards rushing per game. Look for Byu to load the box and try and put Etling in third and long. I think Etling sucks but maybe he improves. From a betting perspective it's a no play imo.

Etling was never bad and he certainly didn’t suck last season, he won most of the games he started and quarterbacked the best offense after Mile’s was fired that LSU had in a long time. Now he did play hurt last season with a serious back injury that forced him to only throw with his arm and not with his whole body and to change his throwing motion to alleviate pain and he says he also couldn’t feel his left leg a lot of the time, but overall even with the bad back and all the pain, he wasn’t bad and his numbers from last year more than prove it.

According to the coaches and the players today, post-surgery and almost 100 percent healthy, he is much more mobile, he has more velocity, accuracy, and consistency on his throws, and it being his second year he is more confident than he was last year. Nevertheless, Etling’s performance last season by no means was bad. In fact, he was one of the better quarterbacks LSU has had since 2007, and hopefully, he’ll be quite a bit more improved this upcoming 2017 season.

Good luck with BYU loading up the box to try to slow down Guice on Coach Canada’s new offense, because if they do load up the box that will give Coach Canada excellent opportunities to create mismatches or to out leverage them for long gains. As we are no longer a one-dimensional antiquated offense like we were in the past. Those days are finally over.

"One of the better quarterback LSU has had since 2007"
No offense but that's not saying much. I didn't see Etling play every game but the times I saw him he looked below average but that's to be expected if he was injured..... the obvious gameplan for BYU will be load the box whether it's effective or ineffective. I think they will try to shorten the game as well. Will have to win in the turnover department to be competitive.
