Again, you get what you expect.
We fired a baseball coach who won a national championship, because he started losing and couldn't take us back to championship form.
Why expect less with our football program?

Are you comparing the Mississippi State baseball program to our football program?
You and I would both love for them to be the same in the national landscape but they are not.
Our ceiling is a playoff contender every 3/4 years with a good coach and motivated fanbase. Our floor is obviously low given the way money drives things these days. We simply do not have the money or alumni donor base to compete for championships year in and year out
With baseball there are only 5/10 programs (maybe less) that actually give a frick. I love college baseball but no one outside of us and a handful of other programs really give a shite. Way easier for us to compete in
You can scream “poor ole” all you want but that’s the truth.

Wrong.
College football is THE main moneymaker for college athletics and pretty much funds every other sports team a university has.
MSU has had success in football and between Mullen and Leach, those teams went to 13 straight bowl games.
So yes, poor MS State can win, because we have before and NIL is just the latest, convenient excuse to cover for second tier coaching.

Again no shite? Did you not just see what I posted? We have a decent ceiling because we have a passionate fanbase in the SEC and we have a surprising amount of wealthy donors.
You are missing my points completely. We should be a stable 6-8 win team with a chance of winning 9-10 every 3/4 years and a chance at the playoffs with a good coach in normal settings. Lebby did not inherit “normal settings”

You're making excuses. I'm making points. We're not going to agree, so you go and be happy with what you expect. I happen to expect more. We don't get there with Lebby.

If you are expecting better results then you are wrong to think MSU has the players and the coaching staff to compete against other SEC teams that have better players and coaching staff. It is similar to Mizzou with Drinkwitz. Are you saying MSU demands more but hired a first timer HC and doesn't have the players in each position to compete against other SEC teams that have better players in most positions. I am seeing an improvement and would not be surprised if MSU beat Mizzou this year.

I'm not expecting anything at this point and I certainly don't believe we have the coaching to win in this conference. Whatever expectation I might have had, it vanished last Saturday when our coach cost us a game that the players had likely won on the field. In all my years of watching MSU football, I've never been more embarrassed and pissed at a loss. And I've seen some deflating football losses in the 40+ years I've been following this program but that one was totally self-inflicted. Lebby should have apologized to the MSU fanbase (or resigned) but instead we get the "I wanted 6-7 more yards" excuse to justify the assinine call he made!
You guys watch, this will be the story of his entire coaching stint at MSU. Four long years from now - unless he gets fired before then - some of you same people here will act like you were with me all along.

Hiring Arnett was the fault of AD John Cohen. He was leaving MSU at the end of 2022 to go be Auburn's AD and didn't want to do a thorough coaching search. He simply promoted Zach Arnett, with his reasoning being that he didn't want to lose Arnett to another program. It was a lame excuse and a lazy excuse.
Totally disqualified anything you said before or after this with your stupidity here. John Cohen was already at Auburn when Leach died. We were in the middle of an AD search. President Mark Keenum promoted Arnett

At least you’ve scored >20 points in a conference game.
Posted on 10/24/25 at 5:10 am to FriedEggBowL
Oh so what?
The university still promoted Arnett to HC, without a serious search and just how old are you anyway - six? Are you going to next assert that your dad can beat up my dad? Forgetting that Cohen had already left doesn't disqualify a single, pertinent point I've made.
Arnett was a bad HC hire. Lebby was a bad HC hire.

Scoring <20 in a game and being a loser is no different than scoring >20 in a game and being a loser.
The guy sucks as a coach!

Lebby is going to be a good one at MSU or at another program.

He made a bad decision last week. Can’t argue that.
But he has something working at State and flushing him so early would do no favors.

I prefer at another program, where he can call a pass play in every game with 29 seconds left, down by 2, around the opponent's 25 yardline and within FG range. GO FOR IT!

Do you not agree Shapen missed multiple wide open receivers? For the third damn time I don’t know if Lebby is the guy but he schemed open receivers all game against that Florida defense and his veteran QB missed em. You can give Lebby shite for bringing Shapen back but a lot of coaches probably would’ve done the same given our situation.
Also people seem to forget we won that game but the refs fricked us by saying a FG was no good that was in fact good

And should we eek out a win over Texas, the remaining teams on our schedule are going to stomp us in the ground.
Arkansas is by no means a guaranteed loss
