During 2010, opposing fan bases said that Auburn got to the BCSNCG because of Cam Newton, Nick Fairley and Gus Malzahn...and luck (lol). Not because of Gene Cheesedick.

Now, despite all the success Gus Malzahn has had, including going BACK to the BCSNCG with a defensive back playing quarterback, Cam Newton was the reason in 2010 and luck was the reason in 2013.

Can anyone make their mind up?

Everybody knows the Chiz was the wizard of that operation in 2010 and 2013 was as flukey a season as a team has ever had.

I know you're trolling and I shouldn't even respond, but what was Gene Chizik's record without Gus Malzahn calling the offense to bail out the awful defenses? 3-9?

Eh.. All he had was a Malzahn QB recruit to work with. We know how those pan out.

He is wrong because auburn does not run a hunh. Look at top since Gus has been here. He is an idiot not because of his point, but because it is based on a false premise. Gus runs a power spread option that doesn't huddle to keep the defense from subbing. There isn't much tempo.

They got the heck out of dodge as quickly as possible is what they did. How long were they both there? A year or two. Van Gorder left to become a position coach not DC in the NFL. Roof left to go to Penn State amidst the Sandusky sanctions. Think about that. The guy left Auburn to take the same position at a school that was about to get hammered by the NCAA. Both got out because they knew it was a career killer.

Except for all of the above is complete bullshite. Roof was fired by Auburn, and then took a job at USF. Only after that, did he take the job at PSU when offered. He didn't leave AU for a job at PSU. And Van Gorder was let go when the Chizik era came to an end. He didn't leave AU for the NFL.

So, they both didn't move in to better more successful jobs then which was the point I was responding to. AU DC equals career killer.

bullshite. You're exact words in that diatribe was that both got out because it was a career killer. They were fired.

Seeing as how they hired Chaney's fat arse, I wouldn't be mocking too much.

Van Gorder is the DC at Note Dame. Roof is the DC at Georgia Tech. How exactly does that equal career killer?

So, are those jobs that you'd leave mighty Auburn and the SEC for? Neither Roof nor VanGorder were technically fired either. Roof left to become the DC at USF with his buddy George O'Leary. VanGorder was bought out. Both of these guys had pretty good track records as DC's, as did Ellis Johnson, until they became DC's for Auburn. This has got to be a concerning trend for your fanbase. With all the talent Auburn amasses, and with, on paper, some pretty good DC hires(Roof, Johnson, VanGorder, Boom) why do they all keep leaving, or getting fired, every year or two? There's a problem somewhere and it has to be concerning for a DC in coming to Auburn.
