I am not trolling when I say had A&M had Johnson at QB in 2021 we go 10-2 at worst.

I personally think Max reached out to the school and since he was leaving, Jake followed him.

Jake is a great prospect as a TE, but we already had two bad dudes committed.

Jake committed before Max and after MB got the call. Max showed he was scared of competition.

He is still a freshman. Needs time to settle in. Will be a good one when all said and done

Max Johnson entered the transfer portal before his brother committed to A&M and before Brennan came back.

We were too busy bitching about Calzada to be dogging Max Johnson so not sure what you mean by that.

We needed a transfer QB because we couldn't go into another season with 2 QBs. It was that simple.

This! We can't afford to go into another season without a qb that can move the offense. There is too much talent across the roster NOW

max has the experience and ability to start next year, that much is obvious. King was the starter last year but only played 2 games. weignman will be a true freshman.

it's not assured he will be given a spot. so the situation is pretty similar. Jimbo knew max from camp circuits and coached his dad. and our system is good for elite tight ends.

Yes, and Max committed to aggies after his brother and after Brennan announced he was taking himself out of the transfer portal. Entering the portal and committing someplace else are very different slick.

All of the Aggies in this topic who automatically assume that Max is the backup crack me up.

The Johnson's didn't go to College Station without having a pretty good idea that Max will win the starting job.

It’s nuts to me that so many Tiger fans have “thanked” Texas A&M for taking Max off of their hands, yet defend his ability to snag the starter’s spot under Jimbo.

My head is spinning.
Tho that could be my bfast egg nog.

It's almost as if a fanbase is made up of many different people with many different opinions.

Max Johnson is a good player, probably not the best fit for what Brian Kelly runs on offense, but good nonetheless.

He definitely isn't going anywhere to ride the pine.

I didn’t say “all” fans; I said many.
Of course Johnson’s a good player.
None of these kids would be on scholarship if they weren’t.

Time will tell where Johnson lands on our QB depth chart.
No one knows.
Makes for good message board convo tho!

1. It's nice to have an experienced QB competing and possibly backing up, your expected QB.

2. The real excitement is over Conner Weigman, though I don't expect nor necessarily want a true Fish starting at QB.

3. Whichever QB starts between King and Johnson, we're in really good shape with our backup.

That's why we're "excited". Pretty simple if you understand football- especially when your starter was knocked out in game 2.

Max provides some SEC experience, and Fisher learned a valuable lesson about lack of depth at QB this year. King knows the offense like the back of his hand and has exceptional athleticism. Weigman has the kind of skillset absent since JFF.

All are fierce competitors that hate to lose. I'd bet on King this year, and Weigman shortly after that

I have to wonder if it is going to be even harder for any team to keep two good quarterbacks on the roster going forward. It is a position that will always be in demand, and the portal makes it pretty tempting to leave if you are not the starter.
