So Calzada hit the portal and King is back... then jimbo brings Johnson in, as an assured backup and to ensure the Max's brother a spot.

Can you aggies fans comment on that? Most of your fans dogged Max all year and now y'all excited.

Since Max committed on the 17th and MB had been contacted on the 13th... it's fair to say that Max was "encouraged" to look around.

I personally think that recently signed five star Conner Weigman will be the answer.

We were too busy bitching about Calzada to be dogging Max Johnson so not sure what you mean by that.

We needed a transfer QB because we couldn't go into another season with 2 QBs. It was that simple.

Weigman will start as a freshman.

That means nothing. It is fodder for the SEC Rant really.

I'm not sure he will be a backup.

You could see this past year the Aggies were in peril with inexperienced QBs. It was a result of a four year starter in Mond. I was never comfortable with a highly touted, hardly played a down redshirt freshman. If King wins the job in the fall next year there will be an experienced QB on the bench, one play and one fractured ankle or broken left shoulder away from playing. It's a good thing.

Most teams will have an experienced hand on the bench and likely in the form of a transfer in.

No, we feel bad for the dumpster fire your team has become since firing O and completely screwing up the next hire. Way to go, Scotty.

Assured backup? Dude has 35 touchdowns to 7 interception and 4k yards in his career. I guarantee he is A&M starter.

Between King and Weigman, Calzada wasn't going to see the field and was going to transfer.

Needed a 3rd QB to provide some experienced depth, and leadership in the QB room. Max is capable enough to fill in if disaster strikes again, and/or if Weigman takes some time to adjust to the college game.

My guess would be that King starts next year. Jimbo’s offense is difficult to learn and King should have the advantage. Max will probably be QB2 and Weigman will probably redshirt. They will probably sign one more from the portal as QB3

Please link to where Jimbo said that.

I personally think Max reached out to the school and since he was leaving, Jake followed him.

Jake is a great prospect as a TE, but we already had two bad dudes committed.

I can say with about 80% confidence that Max will win the job unless Weigman comes in and is a freak of nature. The way max played last year in so much turmoil really impressed me. He has the most experience in the QB room right now. King has never really impressed me and he’s a string bean. Seems like every time he runs he gets up hobbling. I can’t see him making it through an entire SEC schedule let alone taking the beating that Max did this year.

King and Weigman will battle until the fall, the successor will start, if he plays well then the other will probably transfer next December and then rinse and repeat the following year when the next 4/5* comes in. Max we be a backup / clip board holder, did get us the best TE recruit in the country though.

You really wonder why A&M would need a 3rd quarterback after King was out for the season Calzada was a strong breeze away from falling apart, and Stowers was so injured he had to change positions?

Give you my fair assessment as this seems like a non-troll posting.

First off, 99% of Aggies would take Max 9 out of 10 times versus Zach. Zach is a complete headcase. Before the LSU game this year, I didn't think Max was all the great. Admitedly. But he is a far better veteran QB than Zach. Isn't weak minded or lacking in confidence in his throws. No crazy happy feet like Zach Calzada (worse I've ever seen). Max also is a QB very capable of hitting wide open RBs in the flat unlike Calada. Simply said, Zach Calzada sucked something fierce IMO and we were lucky to win 8 games with him. Our defense was the saving grace.

Are we all jumping for joy about Max? No but he is far better than Zach and comparable to Kellen Mond in overall talent.

Do any of us expect Max to play next year? No. Only in garbage time. I sure as hell don't want to see him on the field much at all. If he is starting for us, something has gone seriously awry.

Will Max be the designated #2 QB behind Haynes King? Yes. More of a label than anything else.

Assuming no injury to Haynes King, will Max see more playing time than Conner Weigman?

I seriously doubt it. Even with Conner labeled as our #3 QB, my guess is that Jimbo gives Conner more garbage time opportunity to prep him for 2023+. Fisher did something very similar with Haynes his true redshirt year in 2020. Pretty sure Zach Calzada was listed as the #2 QB behind Mond BUT Haynes was always given the ball in garbage time. But maybe Jimbo should have given Zach the ball a bit more....so he could have identified him being a total headcase!

Zach was a very late QB pick-up for Fisher when hired in late Nov as Sumlin's replacement. Fisher took us from #35 to #18 in just a few weeks of being hired. He flipped a few top guys in a short period of time...UNLIKE Brian Kelly. Sumlin really screwed us at the QB position. And you saw that impact this year.

So Max is mitigation and greatly needed. If Haynes goes down again, I will certainly be nervous. But we do have Conner Weigman waiting and he is a very, very special player. Not that Haynes King can't do special things, too. I just think Weigman is Heisman candidate worthy and 1st round NFL talent with size, speed and IQ to match.

This is an absolutely horrible take.

Max Johnson has started 18 games at quarterback. That's more than any other returning SEC quarterback. King and Weigman are more talented and one will eventually start, but experience is not a small thing.

This. Why I say "veteran". We need a guy on the bench that has been there and done that. Less talented? Maybe. But still a prized 4-star with pretty good stats at LSU. Not Heisman worthy but this is exactly what we don't need. I consider him to be like Kellen Mond.

It's just past the end of the season and our 3rd stringer is going to start the bowl game. It's way too early and franky silly to say Max will be a clipboard holder. I agree with you, he is a great and needed addition to the team.
