My oldest kid is a freshman at a&m. At first, I was bummed that kid #1 wasn't interested in being a gator, but a&m has been a very pleasant surprise. Great engineering program, located in a true college town, friendly people, conservative values still appreciated there, etc.

Word of advice… have your kid, who seems very intelligent and wonderful, go into Engineering or Architectural/Engineering.
Architects are a dying breed, as the big germs such as Gensler HOK and others operate like real estate firms. There are one or two at the top and the rest are interior designers. Plus all of them are on the AI push. Engineers will always be needed and are way more valuable.

Friends here in Louisiana are Auburn grads and their kid has good grades. Applied to Auburn but Auburn isn't helping them out one bit. They make it tough to justify spending the money. Their daughter is going to LSU with tops ride.

Then you can insert YOUR own Trump "wrong!" gif here.
My title is Quality Engineer/Subject Matter Expert. No other person does what I do for Marshall Space Flight Center and my data is considered milestone/Launch criteria.

Hmmm... I sense sarcasm here. Doesn't really matter either way.
There are a lot of incredibly sharp people who work at NASA, from all over the country. There are many Auburn engineers there. Many other "SEC" schools as well.
I even met a couple of young ladies who were interns from Purdue in Engineering. I explained engine nozzle cooling for them at the rocket engines in front of 4200 before they tore that building down.
All I did in my previous post is correct a fallacy. I didn't even slam Auburn, just noted that the poster was incorrect. And the A&M dude also. You guys get sideways too easily. As they say, "this isn't rocket surgery".

No, but she's an incredibly pleasant person and overall nice lady. Helpful to everyone.

Grats to your son. Hope he enjoys Auburn.
Sorry the dumb Bama and Georgia fans posted. They are typical message board type people and can't have a normal conversation.

Everything I have read from third party sources state a 44% acceptance rate
That number comes from Auburn’s Vice President of Enrollment, Joffery Gaymon, in a press release.
quote:
The university’s 2023 early action decisions extend from October to January, with regular decisions being announced in March. The acceptance rate for Auburn’s early action periods was 44% for a total of 20,000 acceptances. Those students had an average ACT score of 28.2 and an average GPA of 4.2
LINK
Historically, Auburn has averaged around 80% overall acceptance. Prior to 2023, the lowest number on record was 70% in 2011. The highest was 92% in 1998.

I don’t care what they say about UTex or A&M I refuse to send my kids there.
I want them to get out of Texas for college. If it’s not LSU then I’m certainly ok with them going to SEC rivals. Auburn would be at the top of the list.

Do you have a source for this claim?
Everything I have read from third party sources state a 44% acceptance rate, I have even read a 39% acceptance rate for 2024. I haven't read anything or seen any third-party publication state that Auburn has an 80% plus acceptance rate
Plus I can tell you from personal experience that Auburn is not as easy to get into as it once was
Well, I don't have a source or any such thing, but we can do some deductive reasoning.
First, let's get one thing straight.
The overall acceptance % is NOT going to depend on how high your standards are. The actual % number itself is just about how many people applied vs how many students you can let in.
And the number of people who apply can depend on multiple factors. Such as the odds they believe they can get in. For example, most people aren't going to apply to Harvard. So again it's nothing to do with academic standards.
Now, as for the specific claim about what Auburn is doing. Given the above, and the fact that Alabama and Auburn admit somewhat similar amounts, with Alabama allowing in a few more, there are only 2 possible ways for Auburn to get that number. One is that Auburn for some reason gets twice as many people who apply than Alabama. The other is that Auburn is giving a number which doesn't reflect the full amount of people who apply, which would be as he said - only counting the early acceptance.
Which of those 2 is it? I do not know. But I do know anyone claiming that it's somehow a reflection of Auburn's high entrance standards doesn't know what the frick they are talking about.

Sending my first kid to a rival
This is the case for us…we’ll see how it ends up. Son’ll play football for an SEC team not named LSU. I’m fine with it, but it doesn’t mean Im wearing their colors. I went to LSU for 8 years…I can’t slip on another SEC school’s shirt and go out in public.

Good for you and your son! I am sure this is an exciting time for him and the family during the recruiting process.
Although my daughter (no pics) ended up at Auburn - and my family has a long history there - I really pushed her NOT to go there, which surprised many family and friends. Because she didn't receive a scholarship to Auburn I did push her to attend an instate (Louisiana) school because she could have gone to LSU or La Tech basically for free.

I remember during my daughters freshman orientation at Auburn there was a parent there wearing a shirt that was great - it was a crimson shirt and in white letters is said "this is my Auburn shirt" with the "A" in Auburn being the U of A script "A" LOL

Is the rant to scary a place to actually tell us what school he is actually attending? Having been around here for a little while I can fully understand if it is. LOL.

Auburn’s out of state tuition is expensive, no?
Our son is just a kicker, so teams really have to need one to recruit one. Preferred Walk On is the offer they give if they want you to come compete for the job…and they will give you some NIL money, but we’d have to do the logistics of housing and books and tuition.
Did go to Auburn…but we were unaware that they redshirted McPherson last year…and picked up a good PWO in Towns.
We get to see how next season goes before he has to make a decision.
