Media loves Lane Kiffin drama.

I think the algorithms for most of these models are struggling with this new parity era of NIL football.
If the last couple of years are any indication, the uncertainty week-to-week continues to climb, and the predictive systems can't seem to adjust.
It's becoming like NFL football.

While, simultaneously, LSU is getting penalized severely for the loss. If the loss was so bad for LSU, why is Ole Miss benefiting so much from it? It was a five point loss against a rival in a hostile environment.
Because we absolutely whipped that arse.
Total Yards:
LSU: 254 Ole Miss: 480
Third Downs:
LSU: 2-11 Ole Miss: 8-16
We had 100 more passing yards and 100 more rushing yards. The only phase of the game in which LSU was remotely competitive was penalties. Had Ole Miss not had 14 penalties for 109 yards we may have won 49-19.
It was a five point loss but you still got skull fricked up and down the field.

I actually agree with the premise of your post, but I think LSU is being judged by their body of work - particularly their offense. They finally lost and people are now comfortable publicly adjusting their expectations for the team - who they had on quite a pedestal.
Bama was a victim of the dual reality judgment from voters as well. We started the season ranked inside the Top 10, then lost to FSU. Many voters dropped Bama completely out of their Top 25 while moving FSU into their Top 10.
If FSU was a Top 25 team, much less a Top 10, losing to them on the road by two possessions in the first game of the year shouldn’t have moved the needle a whole lot.
Either the opponent was bad and we deserved a massive drop, or they were good and we didn’t deserve a massive drop. Those ideas can’t coexist - but voters tried to make them anyway.
This happens all the time and perfectly highlights why early season rankings are dumb.

It will get downgraded as more teams expose lsu.

Try being 4-1, beat last years Big 12 champ who was ranked in the teens at the time, just took another 15th ranked team to the wire, and not get top 25 consideration over other pretender teams like BYU and Illinois.
Oh yea.. and that first team you beat just reentered the polls over you for barely beating TCU.
I’m telling you folks…. Someone from the SEC is gonna get screwed on this playoff ranking by committee. It’s basically going to be the Notre Dame and 11 field.

Voters (and perhaps ranking systems) seem to be putting a lot of emphasis on QB play.
Somehow the eye-test has focused in pretty narrowly, and when those guys underperform, the expectations for the whole team slides.

I think it’s more likely the newer “journalist” voters are absolutely clueless and couldn’t tell you the difference in a wheel route and a slant.

OM did it with their backup QB and looked solid in all phases. Looked like a complete team vs LSU who looked handicapped. National view that one of these is an ascending team after the game and one of these is a descending team.

Why is this so shocking that remaining undefeated comes with perks.

I still think that LSU is a very good team. Kiffin and Golding had a great game plan.

Here’s my hot take… I’m not sure either are good.
LSU’s 7-point win at Clemson might go down in history as the most over-hyped result of a game in CFB history. Since then, Clemson has gone on to lose to Georgia Tech by 3 and to Syracuse by 13.
LSU needed 5 INT’s to beat Florida by 10 at home. Considering USF beat the Gators by 2 in Gainesville and then Miami beat the Gators by 19 at home… this again does not bode well for LSU being a great team.
So then was Ole Miss’ 5 point win over LSU at home really that impressive? The jury is still out.
But the Rebs’ 7-point win over Kentucky looks suspect when you see that South Carolina beat Kentucky by 22.
The Rebs’ 6-point win at Arkansas also looks suspect when you consider Notre Dame beat the Hogs by 43 in the same stadium…. Also Memphis beat them by 1.
I’m not saying both are bad teams, but to me, the jury is still out regarding how good any of these teams are.

You should worry more about your offensive line.

Kind of agree with you. LSU getting penalized by loss and the fact that Clemson sucks. If LSU getting hit by Clemson win quality, then it doesn't seem reasonable to reward Ole Miss so much for edging out LSU at hom
Really doesn't make sense.
