I hope there isn't a clear video, because it sounds like the officer just took him out without trying to properly arrest him. I'm all for this, when you've shot someone, the police has full authority to take you out.
However, the libtards of the world will run around protesting this "unjust" shooting.

Based on the picture I saw, the shooter's gun was lying a few feet from in, which would seem to indicate that he had it out.

That's better, but still, when anti-police liberals look at any video, short of the thug standing on top of the cop pointing at him with a gun, they still will want to scream "racist cops!", etc.

Apparently several shoppers were seen with their guns drawn for protection as they were fleeing or hunkering down. Take this with a grain of salt, but I've seen some chatter that the person who the police killed might've been doing this and wasn't actually the shooter. The store where the fight and shooting happened is right by an exit so it's not unbelievable that the shooter could have slipped out before the police got there. Couldn't possibly blame the cop either in such a chaotic situation. I hope it was the right guy though.

Also from the wording of the chief's answers it gave me the impression that the 12 yr old girl bystander who was hit may have been hit by one of the cops stray bullets.

I hope none of that is true and is all just early wild speculation, but this could potentially be a very messy situation for the Hoover PD. Even in such a chaotic and confusing situation you know people would still blame the cop and call for his head which really sucks.

East Coast Band-IMO, Nobody is anti-police. But we all are anti-BAD police. So lets keep things in perspective. That is if you’re capable of doing so.

frick that, if there isn't an immediately imminent threat on the cops life or others he should serve time. We have juries for a reason.

Update from the Hoover PD this morning:

quote:

One Dead after Officer Involved Shooting at Riverchase Galleria

Yesterday at 9:52 p.m., two males engaged in a physical altercation on the second floor concourse area of the Riverchase Galleria, near the entrance to Footaction. During the fight, one of the males produced a handgun and shot the other male twice in the torso. Two uniformed Hoover Police officers providing security at the mall were in close proximity and heard the gunshots. While moving toward the shooting scene, one of the officers encountered a suspect brandishing a pistol and shot him. That individual, a 21-year-old male from Hueytown, was pronounced deceased on the scene. The first shooting victim, an 18-year-old male from Birmingham, was transported to UAB Hospital by ambulance in serious condition. A 12-year-old female who was an innocent bystander was also wounded by gunfire. She was transported to Children’s Hospital by a Hoover Fire Department rescue unit and is in stable condition. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case per the request of the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

This was not the case, he was actively involved in what happened. Unfortunately, I saw the initial argument between two groups go down. There was 7-10 on each side with the guy who is dead and the other was wearing a red windbreaker and a Louis Vuitton doo rag. It started just on the other side of the food court on the second level above the Vans store. I got caught in the middle of the argument without realizing it just due to how many people were there. I saw the dead guy reaching in his pants for something but he never pulled anything out. I told a mall security guard there looked like there was about to be a huge fight and showed him which direction they went (towards foot action) and he said he was getting backup to confront the situation. We decided to leave within 5 minutes of that happening and before I even got home (live behind the summit) I had got a text from my dad asking if I was ok because he knew I was there. I ended up calling Hoover PD and told them everthing I saw about what looked like the beginning of it. Pretty sure the kid who’s in the hospital is the guy in the read jacket just based on what I saw.

Glad to hear some confirmation that they did get the right guy, and I'm also glad to hear that you and yours are safe

Do you have any idea if the girl was hit during the initial shooting or when the cop got the suspect? Last night the police chief was saying they weren't sure at what point she was hit and then kind of brushed off the question.

I have seen the stuff on Facebook about it being the wrong guy as well. If it isn the same guy it’s a huge conisednece that they were wearing just about the exact same thing. I’m not sure about when the girl was shot, like by LEO or the initial shooting. I saw on Facebook that the girl is at children’s and is expected to make a full recovery, fwiw.

That's good to hear. My sister is a pediatric ER nurse who used to work at Children's in Bham and I know child gunshot victims can be especially emotionally hard on the nurses and doctors who have to work on them. Hopefully the girl and staff at Children's all mentally/ emotionally recover as well.

Here we go, latest article finally says something: LINK

quote:

Capt. Gregg Rector said a 21-year-old man from Hueytown then shot the 18-year-old male with whom he was arguing. That gunfire is believed to have also wounded the young girl.

quote:

“They were upstairs, outside of J.C. Penney when a fight broke out. Shots were fired, and one of the bullets hit Molly in the back,’’ Bennett wrote. “She said that her back hurt, but didn't even realize she had been shot until she overheard my mom telling me on the phone.”

A military medic took care of Molly until Hoover Fire medics arrived. “A nurse came to help and assured my mom that the medic was doing everything exactly right,’’ Bennett wrote. “The shoe store employees allowed the medic to use a shirt off the rack to hold pressure on the wound, and they brought a jacket to cover Molly when she got cold.”

quote:

Bennett wrote that Molly “was hurting a lot, but very brave and positive as always.”

The girl went into surgery where doctors found none of her organs were damaged, and that there was no internal bleeding. “The bullet had gone in her back at an angle and lodged really close to her spine,’’ Bennett wrote. “The surgeon explained that she would have a CT scan in the morning to determine if there was any damage to her spine. If there is none, they will leave the bullet where it is, and she should be able to go home Tuesday or Wednesday.”

He's been publicly identified. EJ Bradford

LINK

The media is using this picture of him. He was discharged in basic training. Some people were saying it was for a medical reason, others implied it was for other reasons. His recruiter commented on a post saying he knew why but the reason couldn't be disclosed.

This is his Facebook picture, posted an hour before he died and wearing the same clothes.

Facebook name is Li Glock and it's still up btw

A lot of people on Facebook still claiming he wasn't the shooter. Some even claiming he was open carrying with it on his hip and not drawn when he was shot. Not sure how it would have ended up on the floor 5 feet from his head if it had been on his hip.... But I'm sure surveillance videos caught the whole thing so we'll find out the truth for sure this time.
