Pistol Pete Maravich.

Just insane how good of a shooter he was. Knee injuries took out one of the goat shooters of all time. His college stats were just insane and that was without a 3 point line which likely would have led to him averaging over 50points a game. The only number in my eyes that compares is Jordan averaging almost 40 a game in the NBA which is also insane.

Jordan's highest single season average was 37.1 ppg in 1986-1987. For comparison, Kobe Bryant averaged 35.4 ppg in the 2005-2006 season. Jordan is also 6th place on the single season scoring list.

No one has even come close to Maravich's numbers, as in no one comes within 10 points per game of Maravich's average.

The handcheck and other defensive mechanisms were legal in 86-87 and now you can't touch shooters without drawing a foul so the times were different but yes Kobe was a HOF scorer in his own right.

The other tops belong to Wilt Chamberlain from the 50s averaging almost 10 more minutes per game although his averaging 50ppg is also insane but not comparing him to Jordan because they did it in vastly different ways.

Pistol Pete Maravich was Michael Jordan before Michael Jordan. But better before his knees exploded. Much better in the college game.

No three point line. No Freshman season counting for the stats. No shot clock.

The only person who comes close in the college game is Freeman Williams from Portland State. He had 4 seasons to get within distance of Maravich. And in a, shall we say, somewhat less challenging league.

And he did all of that with a deformed heart that lead to his early death at the age of 40. With a good heart, and modern medicine to treat his knees, even Michael Jordan, the GOAT of all time pro player, would have been hard pressed to match the Pistol.

Let's not frick around here. Pistol Pete Maravich was the greatest basketball player of all time at the college level.

Jordan just had the body for dominance. Just an absolute machine.

Pistol Pete had a higher scoring average than shooting percentage. Being the coach's son has it's benefits I suppose

I would acknowledge your slight... but he's still the leading scorer in college basketball. While only playing three years.

That is insane.

They could honestly do an entire television series that just deep dives into each character presented in that gif. Sort of a HIMYM but more like "How I Came To Tell Marshall Henderson To Go frick Himself"

Not only the SEC, but the best ever in College is Pistol. It isn't even close.

On the greatest dynasty ever in College.

The thing about Pete, he was doing shite never seen before. shite, Magic himself has said Pistol was the the greatest he ever saw.

And just for shits and giggles, the Pistol was 6’4 with ups, the best handle ever in basketball, and about 35’ range.

He would dominate Steph Curry today 50 years later.

He is the unquestioned GOAT

Larry Bird averaged 30 points on like 14 less shots less a game, pulled down 7 more rebounds a game, and averaged half an assist less a game and led indiana state to a runner up finish.
