Normally the zone shrinks in extra innings because the umps want to go home, too. It seems to have expanded. Although, I wasn't watching too closely between the 3rd or 4th inning and the 8th, so maybe it has been wide all night.

Well yea. But the detriment of “throwing both our starters” to our pitching staff would be much worse than throwing what is currently a starter, reliever, and closer

I wasn't trying to say it was helping one team or the other. It does seem to be mostly generous, though the inconsistency is definitely there. It hasn't seemed much more inconsistent than most college games, but I already admitted to missing the middle half of the game.
