maybe before the knee injury. but gilder isnt the same defensive player he was prior to that

That is silly. Gilder could have gotten in front of him and forced him to pass it and whoever he was guarding (ingram??) would have had to hit a shot or Sexton would have had to make a more difficult shot.

The only option is to do what Gators said and basically pack back and make him pull up.

You can't attempt to redirect him outside of that, though, because he's better than almost anyone at drawing contact. And nobody in America is quick enough to get in front of him in the open floor without chipping him.

meh, you put pressure on him after he touches the ball. make him get buy your first defender, and then bring help when he does. you dont want him charging with a full head of steam at the half court line with only one player on him who isnt going to stop anything

I think that's what the strategy was but between not wanting to foul and Sexton just being quicker and faster than everyone else the defense was dead in the water

Have to make Sexton take a jump shot in that scenario imo and best way to do that is to not pressure him at all and camp in the lane

i really have my doubts. watch that replay. starks literally did nothing to help gilder once he got passed. i am fine with him catching the ball, but not as far up the court as he did.

the plan is not stop him from getting the ball, but not give him an easy path to the hoop by using help defenders to pick up the slack and do their best to stop the ball as far away from the hoop as possible. starks literally defended his man at the three point line instead of helping gilder. flagg should have stepped up into the lane once his man cleared out and sexton was past gilder. you can argue rob was late but id say he wasnt expecting sextons floater so his play really doesnt bother me as much. i just cant believe what starks and flagg were doing

The dumb aTm player had position in the paint and just sat there like he was going to try to get a rebound. Had he gotten himself into position, either Sexton does not get the shot he wants or commits a charge. But the aTm player was probably scared.

We need to get Turtle out of the game. He can't handle pressure defense.
