It's no surprise that the newest members are high on each list, but kind of shocking to see how few times some charter members have played each other.

Not a big surprise.

Georgia tries to avoid anything associated with LSU.

Brings up bad memories.

Auburn gets screwed by having to play the most BIG6 teams often.

Vanderbilt looks like they had to play all big6 a lot too.

Didnt realize LSU and Auburn havent played that much in the grand scheme of things. Pretty heated rivalry for not played that many times.

Oh and it seems Miss State has played everybody the most. They must've started football in the 1800s

Yep.

Auburn is the only team that has all of the remaining non-AU Big 6 opponents in their Top 6 most frequent opponents.

Anybody still want to argue that Auburn hasn’t had the most difficult SEC schedule historically? Chime in now and show your work.

LSU rotated with Ole Miss, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt on and off of AU’s schedule back in the pre-SEC West days.

AU’s annual opponents back then were Bama, UGA, UF, Tennessee, and Miss State.

Things that jumped out to me:

Auburn’s schedule all time.
DSOR with 124 meetings.
Mizzou had no business joining this league.

This is a fun list. It makes me think about the importance of playing every team in the conference more regularly though. The best solution I've seen is some version of the roommate switch (which gets you to at least 50% of the time and obviously 100% of the years for teams in your pod or designated as permanent opponents)

The other question that arose in my mind was which teams are the most important rivals for each team- which relates to the frequency of times played but doesn't exactly match.

At first pass I would guess (ooc rivals mentioned but not ranked in parentheses):

Alabama:
1) Auburn, Tennessee
3) LSU

Arkansas:
1) A&M, LSU
3) Missouri

Auburn:
1) Alabama and UGA
3) LSU and Florida

Florida: (FSU, Miami)
1) UGA
2) LSU and Auburn

Georgia: (Ga Tech)
1) Auburn and Florida

Kentucky: (Louisville)
1) Vanderbilt
2) Tennessee

LSU:
1) debatable
2) Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, Texas A&M

Ole Miss:
1) MSU
2) LSU

MSU:
1) Ole Miss
2) maybe Kentucky?

Missouri: (Kansas)
1) debatable
2) Arkansas, A&M, Kentucky

South Carolina: (Clemson)
1) UGA
2) Florida

Tennessee:
1) Alabama
2) Florida, UGA, Vanderbilt

Texas A&M: (Texas)
1) Arkansas and LSU
3) Missouri maybe

Vanderbilt:
1) Tennessee
2) Kentucky and Ole Miss

One of the meetings was a bowl game. What's really insane is-

LSU's last trip to Columbia was in 2008, the next trip to Columbia will be in 2023. And it's not even the same Columbia.

Are you talking about played AS an SEC team.....or just played them ANY time?
& regular season - or does post season count too?

But, what are you basing your #'s off of? The Big 6 didn't exist until 1992.

Keep in mind, we don't know the time span the OP used to collect these #'s.

Unless somebody can shed some light on this, there was no schedule format applied until 1992. So, you're looking @ ~30 years of games.

&, where do you start counting Miss./TA&M games?

The numbers listed were all-time, without regard conference or post season.

They came from HERE
