and you call yourself a south carolinian
Any Southerner who doesn't think it wasn't about slavery is just trying to make us seem like the "good guys". You can say it was about state's rights, but state's rights to keep slaves.
Slavery is a part of American history, especially in the South, and allowed South Carolina to prosper in its early history. So doing my best to not look at history through hindsight I am aware of the importance slavery was to the South and South Carolina and that fighting to keep slavery wasn't a bad decision, at least short term.
With that said I am also aware countless Southerners who had no slaves fought for the Confederacy for the sake of defending their home from an invader, and those should be honored, but not at the expense of ignoring why the war was fought in the 1st place.

I agree pretty unique but much greater if he finds a more accurate one for LSU
Yea, I think I'll recommend Harry Truman for LSU. Came in somewhat late the to game (the game being WW2) and just dropping the damn bomb.

Wouldn't Jimmy Carter be a better comparison for Vandy? The guy was incredibly smart but was a bad president.

thats not really accurate either considering its not like we are a new kid on the block. we are a top 10 program in history.

Its not that slavery wasn't an issue, but it was not the root issue. Saying the Civil War was about Slavery completely undermines the bigger economical issues and state vs federal issues. Slavery was a great rallying point to fight the state's rights issue, but that still means that the biggest root cause was state's rights.

Florida's VP would be Truman.

Bama would be Obama or Carter.

and the fact that the leader making those decisions was one that wasn't elected by one southern state means nothing i guess

Tell me. If the US never had slaves do you think there would have been a Civil War?

1st line of GA's secession declaration
quote:
The people of Georgia having dissolved their political connection with the Government of the United States of America, present to their confederates and the world the causes which have led to the separation. For the last ten years we have had numerous and serious causes of complaint against our non-slave-holding confederate States with reference to the subject of African slavery

Look, anyone who believes that the main cause of secession was NOT for the protection and expansion of an agrarian economy based upon a Plantation Hierarchy/society that depended predominately on human chattel as its labor force has never bothered to read even the first paragraph of the Confederate Constitution adopted in spring '61.

I liked the original thread. I know this picture was about to have some Ags really fired up...
You know that, the day after that picture was taken, Sherman got arse-raped by Kansas State in Manhattan (the score was 59-0 in the 3rd)
and I wouldn't compare LSU to Jimmy Carter at all. They're more like Nixon.
If you want to compare a school to Carter, go with Georgia Tech: Left the conference, went to complete shite, and continued to badmouth it after leaving.
