Stats can be cherry picked to tell you whatever you want really.

Points per drive is the best stat out there imo.. for offense and defense.. in a perfect world, against power 5 teams only.. even though those aren’t all the same either..
Within conference play would be the best comparison..

Yardage defense is for the birds who cares how many yards you give up you don’t win by yards or lose by them …. Scoring defense is the true indicator of who’s actually has a defense …..
