Anyone else find it weird how grown men are so "obsessed" with college softball? I understand if your daughter or niece is playing, I suppose. But just b/c your daughter played HS softball---isn't a reason.

It's just weird. And it's even comical how these people think they understand what's going on out there.

And I realize people have different opinions, I just don't get it. Softball is like all the stuff about baseball that sucks. Baseball is great, softball is like arena football or something. Just terrible. And I say this as a Bammer, of course if we sucked at softball there would be like 10 people that watched and talked about it and I wouldn't be making this post.

And BTW, Pat Murphy is great---I cheer for Alabama to win, but I sure as hell ain't gonna sit around watching and providing play-by-play commentary on a message board.

No sexist just truths

How often you watch Alabama Tennis?
"Oh I'm sure you would it were on TV."

My degree says UA too but doesn't seem I'm gonna spend my afternoons watching freaking softball and getting all worked up over it---it's softball. It sucks.

Kids having fun playing the sport. Family-friendly environment. Cheering for the ladies. Not sure what's wrong with it or deserves criticism. Frankly, I find softball more entertaining than baseball. I think you have a case of Don't-like-what-I-don't-like.

I actually enjoy watching college softball more than college baseball. It has a faster pace and games typically are over in less than two hours.

Cracks me up when people say that (softball is faster) yet virtually everyone sits and watches the 4 hour football games or basketball games where the last 2 min takes 30 min or real time.

Not a good thing for the future of America if attention spans are that bad. " I'm gonna watch some shitty sport simply b/c it's over in 2 hours. " lol

Maybe it makes people feel "open-minded" watching a women's sport?? I don't get it.

Just truly blows my mind how so many middle-aged men are so obsessed with college softball. I'm still in my 30s, don't really know more than maybe 1-2 people who would have been watching this stuff.

It's very obvious that you never played the game. Aside from the fact that I follow all things "Alabama", I played some fast pitch softball when I was younger and realize what a helluva game it is. I guess it's like the folks who never played baseball past little league that believe baseball is boring....you just don't know what you're watching.

lol love the "obvious you never played" comment. Of course I never played it, I'm a male. I'd wager 98% of males have never played because we play baseball b/c we're capable of throwing a ball with a fluid motion.

like 20 feet basepaths. Non-stop chanting and cheering---Geezus christ. I'm pretty sure it's impossible to it a double or triple...that damn drag bunting they do...pitchers throw like 423 pitches per games then come back out the next night, too.

Some of ya'll seem butthurt like your manhood is being quesitoned---I just find it creepy the obsession/interest.

The only thing creepy here is your random melt over girls' softball, but carry on with your dude-bro self.

I wasn't comparing softball to football or basketball. I was comparing it to baseball because at their core they are similar.

Where is this obsession for softball by grown men you speak of? By grown men do you mean you and only you or you and one of your buddies speaking up for all other grown men?

I realize people have different opinions. Some people are into Mindcraft and Dungeons & Dragons & gaming and shite. I don't understand why, but people are different.

I'm saying softball is the Dunegons & Dragons of sports.

I would say gymnastics, but that's not a sport any more than competition cheerleading, Dancing with the Stars or Figure Skating is a sport.

I guess we aren't allowed to enjoy women's sports? The OP has his panties in a bunch because we actually enjoy women's sports.

Nope. Mainly just softball.

No problem with Women's Tennis, Golf, Volleyball, Soccer, Track & Field. Those don't suck.

Softball is like baseball, if baseball sucked arse.

Pal, I played a ton of baseball into my 20s, and played fast pitch with a travel team after that. Most of the guys who played were x-college baseball players (Alabama, Ga. Tech, Southern Miss, Tulane, to name a few). Since you don't have a clue about what you're saying, I'll tell you this. It's twice as hard to hit a fast pitch softball as it is to hit a baseball...and I'd like to see you play 3rd or 1st base against a good offensive team. But don't believe me. Google Eddie Feigner (King and his court) and get yourself an education about fast pitch before you come on here and make an even bigger fool of yourself.

from an article: "In 1967, he faced, in order, Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Brooks Robinson, Maury Wills, Harmon Killebrew and Roberto Clemente. He struck out all six."

Played baseball into my 20's also. I never was scared getting into the box against anybody............until I faced Eddie Feigner.

ETA He was an old man when I faced him too.

Just b/c it's hard to hit a softball doesn't mean it doesn't suck.

It's hard to drive a stock car too, but doesn't mean I want to watch them drive in circles for 3 hours.

It's hard to be President, doesn't stop people from talking about the job Bush/Obama does.

It's hard to spell big words, doesn't mean I'm gonna sit around for hours watching 10 year-olds spell.
