Is that why education and sportsball are so bad in Mississippi

Look, you think it is ok to act like an anti Southern bigot and poke fun at Mississippi's expense. The reality is that Miss, like other states with large Black populations, is hamstrung by a population with a signifcantly lower avg IQ. it is reality. And no amount of hating me for telling the truth will make it not so. Study after study has documented the real differences across racial groups in avg IQ. By the way, Asians have a slightly higher avg IQ than Whites. But Blacks are one standard deviation (15 points!) below Whites.

There is very little evidence that "good or bad" schools have much to do with it. DC schools in fact, are funded better than any other school district, yet it graduates a whole lot of functionally illiterate people. Iowa, by contrast, spends much less, but educates some of the smartest kids.

We all know that the implication is that Miss is run by evil racist Whites who just refuse to do the right thing! Or worse, that it is weighed down by trailer trash who are just too dumb for life.

I don't blame it on Blacks either. It just is what it is.

I would support some new flag that integrates elements of the current Miss flag, including the CSA battle flag,

The proposal for a change in 2001 did just that. I think the proposal in 2015 did as well. And there’s always the magnolia flag they can go back to. Which was the original state flag of Mississippi.

I don't think the CSA battle flag should go. Just put something on the flag that honors African heritage too.

God dammit

The magnolia flag has the Bonnie blue flag on it. You know, the original flag of the confederacy

Oh that will be a good choice for us

frick. Off.

ETA: and what a coincidence we made that flag in 1861. You know what else we did that year?

And the Bonnie Blue flag was modeled after the Republic of West Florida and the Burnett flag, which dates to about 1810.

If Mississippi has to change their flag so should Alabama and Florida. All are St. Andrews Cross.

Wait. What?
It's not offensive because it's St. Andrew's Cross.

Not sure about Florida, but
Alabama's flag is based off Scotland's flag due the the large number of early Alabama settlers being Scottish.

Alabama law states that the flag is "A crimson cross of St. Andrew's."

Scotland's Flag

Alabama's Flag

That us the Bonnie Blue Flag, which is obviously not the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia. It was the Battle Flag that we all know was used by Jim Crow advocates and the KKK and thus that is why it has different historical connotations than the Bonnie Blue Flag, which other than those who have studied the US Civil War, wouldn't know what it is. Obviously you do know yours.

There’s a lot of conjecture about both. Some Alabama units used variations of the St. Andrew’s Cross. Namely the 60th Alabama.

Florida’s flag is chiefly modeled after the Burgundy Cross.

Both flags were implemented around 1895. As Jim Crow laws were being instituted in state constitutions. That doesn’t help the argument about what the origins are.

Well it doesn't really matter who used it when and what their motivations were. St. Andrew's Cross was first used in the 1500s and has no origins in racism.
If it's based on St. Andrew's Cross, it isn't racist.

Find the pre1954 Ga Flag, that flag is more representative of Georgia in 2020 and beyond

Where exactly do you think the Confederate battle flag came from? It’s a version of St Andrew’s Cross...just like Alabama.

First of all, anyone who thinks the North did not create Jim Crow laws simply because it was less racist is naive. The South created Jim Crow laws to manage the interactions of two large groups of people. Of course, the Whites being the majority, tailored it too much to their interests. But the North never had to deal with the level of interaction that the South did.

Second, the Klan has marched with the US flag, and civil rights organizations and mainstream political campaigns have employed the Rebel battle flag in their symbols and ads. So why single out the bad use of the battle flag?

One thing I have never understood, is why Bama never uses the state flag in its pregame traditions. Other schools use their state flags, so why can't UA? The state flag has crimson colors for goodness sake!

Just wow at this revisionist history and defense of racist segregationist laws.

Jim Crow laws were made to suppress the rights of black people. The "manage the interactions" angle you've made up in your head is complete and utter false nonsense.
The people who supported Jim Crow laws did so because they bought into the toxic racist mentality.

And Alabama's Flag, as stated by law, is based on St. Andrew's Cross.

It doesn't matter who else is used it.

Would Scotland need to get rid of their flag too because a version of the Confederate flag was based off it?
