and why is aTm a permanent opponent for us?

This is stupid. I've gotten more on board with eliminating division games, and having ~4ish permanent opponents you play every year and rotating everyone else.

Because in this proposal you would need a permanent rival from each pod. LSU took Tennessee. Honestly I wouldn't mind A&M taking Tennessee and Georgia taking LSU. Seems a bit better, IMO.

But that defeats the entire purpose of adding NC State and VTech - which is to use each school to open a large TV market and increase revenue. Might as well just add Florida State and Clemson at that point.

I agree that of the NC/VA teams to "open up that market" by far the 2 that make the most sense and seem like the easiest to convince would be VT and NC State.

However, like you said, both the Virginia and North Carolina legislatures are hardliners on keeping them all in the ACC. Especially Virginia.
Yea. Even if the ACC collapses, Virginia, UNC and Duke would all bolt for the B1G.

I was joking. I would rather NC or Duke, but if they have some caveat of staying together you take VT and NC State, if they are willing.

Does LSU lose the annual game with Ole Miss in this deal?

I was thinking that championship would be determined by a game between the two teams with the best overall record. Use the same tiebreakers that we use now for division. Pods irrelevant.

But I didn't consider the idea of a semifinal. That's a great idea. Seed them by record and have a semi-final game and then a final game. Might have to add that to the presentation.

Well if we go to 4 Super conferences then it would be no problem. I don't want the SEC to be the only conference doing it though.

NC/Duke aren't leaving one another. And frankly, there's no way in hell either would leave (even as a package) from the ACC.

Great proposal. How would the conference champion be determined. Will we have a semifinal game and then a championship game?

That would be bad arse.

What if everyone has to schedule an OOC game at the end of the year, and then it gets dropped if they have to play in the semifinal game? They could use the money they make in the semifinal game to pay off La-Monroe or whoever didn't get the game.

Yes, they would, since Ole Miss and Bama are in the same pod. Honestly, I really considered switching the Bama and Ole Miss annual opponents so Ole Miss played LSU and Bama played Arkansas, but since I'm an LSU fan I didn't want it to be biased. I'd certainly be willing to revisit the annual opponents though if people thought that there are better ways of handling it.

I think LSU and Ole Miss should be permanent opponents. I love the LSU-Bama game but LSU-Ole Miss is a real, old rivalry. Can't kill that.

Brings up contractual issues that could work against us.

OM-LSU is an old rivalry, Bama-LSU is not. If the point of permanent opponents is to preserve rivalries you should switch them.

Just my opinion.

How so? I don't think those powderpuff teams everyone plays would mind that much as long as they got a check.

OK, seems to be a consensus on this. I'll switch that around and add a conference championship format to my next revision of the proposal.

Ole Miss and LSU is an absolute must.

Why not pair TAMU and Bama as permanent rivals? There is a bit of a connection there through Bryant and the Aggies really seem to value that relationship.

Tier 2

In seriousness, I hate all these realignment threads, but this was refreshingly well thought out.
