When issuing those suspensions, the SEC cited Rule 9-1-4 of the NCAA rulebook, which states: "No player shall target and initiate contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, elbow or shoulder."
I think the only variable to consider is whether or Murray would be considered "a defenseless opponent." Obviously, even if no penalty called during game, later review can still result in suspension of player in next game.
This is going to be a controversial decision, not matter high it plays out. Never going to find everyone in agreement.

Im arguing that he shouldn't be suspended.
I never said the guy should be suspended.

This. The only people that don't think this was a dirty helmet-to-helmet hit are gumps.
The NFL makes a lot of money off defenders that are stupid enough to make hits like that.
The SEC does not play by NFL rules YET. I bet there will be rule changes at the SEC meetings this winter to adopt a more NFL type rule.

In terms of a defensive player think of the play as a kickoff return and Murray as a tightend.
I think this is where your argument fails. Anytime an interception is thrown, the QBs rarely try to tackle the ball carrier. When they do its half assed, and usually not even a threat to stopping the ball carrier.

It was a clean hit. I can just see why it was considered too rough.

I don't think me, nor any other GA fan in this thread want the guy suspended...we just want you to agree the shite is dirty since NO flag was thrown. Hell I agree that Ogletree made a bad hit, which was 1/2 as bad on McCarron and we got flagged...it was the right call. We are merely seeng how low you will sink in defending this. It was a dirty and a flag should have been thrown. No suspensions needed.

Fine. Give them 15 yards. Lacy or Yeldon get it back running up the gut on the next play.
LSU fans' whining about officiating in Bama games has gotten fricking ridiculous. You fricks were whining about the officiating in the Bama/AU game for the love of God.... A game with a final score of 49-0.

It was technically a clean hit, but it would probably fall under unnecessary roughness which is a grey area. I would understand that.
But a suspension on a technically clean hit that was just too vicious and rough? Ridiculous.

Would have been 42-0 without those cheating bama refs.

I am going to be in the minority, but in all these gifs, etc, you can clearly see that he led with his forearm/shoulder to Murray's chest/shoulder region. With that being said, he did end up making helmet to helmet contact with Murray. Whether that is a penalty or not, given the circumstances of Murray becoming a possible defender after the interception is made, that is not my job to decide. IMO it should not be flagged, but I can see the argument that is being made for it to be flagged.
Every Saturday and Sunday I watch defenders get decleated on ST plays where either a tackler or blocker gets completely rocked like Murray did(guy leads with forearm/shoulder and helmet to helmet contact is made), and there's no flags. If Murray wants to chase after the guy who picks him off, he needs to keep his head on a swivel, and not be so naive. JMO.

I would still like for an Alabama fan to offer an honest response about what their reaction would be if Nick Fairley delivered a similar hit on Greg McElroy.
I'll be honest. I would probably be defending him as vociferously as some of you are defending Dial.

If they flag him.... Then there is no suspension.
Suspending is just the SEC officials way of saying "we goofed."
Which they do all to regularly. After all, they're human.

Wait, are you suggesting that QBs get special protection so they don't get hit hard? Maybe special colored jerseys or something?
If he wants to play big boy football, he's gonna get big boy hits. If thats a problem, then he should look into soccer. (hell, soccer might be too physical too)

Don't get me wrong, I think he saw a quarterback and a opportunity to hit him when it was completely legal to do so. I also think he threw a block on him just like he would have any other player.

Clean hits are fine. Power driving into the ground or spearing in the back 3 seconds after the QB releases the ball is another thing.

As has been posted NUMEROUS times...we SAW McElroy take a suplex in the 2010 Auburn game. I didn't whine in the LEAST. Its football.

They'd be doing NFL-bound players a favor.
There's no excuse anymore, everybody knows what happens to your head after you've taken hits like that your whole life.
