A huge plus. Jeez, people, it's not that complicated. We, as fans, will have unprecedented access to more of every SEC sport...45 additional games in football alone as example. There will continue to be SEC games broadcast by the traditional networks as well. No one need suffer through the filler content listening to the likes of "Pawl" unless they choose but this will be a huge asset for fans, the conference will benefit from the exposure and individual schools from the revenue stream that will eventually become similar to an endowment - what's not to like?

Foley has already told us not to be surprised if we see fewer UF sporting events on top of Gator specific shows that we are losing. Financially it makes sense, as a Gator sports fan I don't know if we will get the same kind of coverage we did at Sun. There is only so much they can show.

Probably the same for LSU fans and CST.

Hell, CSS is shutting down altogether pretty soon. There is no way that everyone will see an increase in school dedicated programming or number of games televised. It's just not possible.

If they put all baseball games on espn3.com then friend. Otherwise foe. I can get pretty much every game right now on the internet. If I can't I won't be happy.

So if the sec network is owned by espn will they still have sec games on the regular espn channels or is the sec games soley limited to sec network?

I'm hoping they show some sports programming that you rarely see on any of the conference channels. Having more baseball and softball games will be nice, but I hope the SECN branches out and shows things like the SEC men's and women's golf and tennis championships. I think there is a lot of potentially good compelling golf programming considering how many eventual PGA and LPGA golfers come out of SEC programs

Most people still don't really get the network. Most everything will be on ESPN3 (or the SECN webchannel actually)

Both MSU's and our AD have already stated that every single home baseball game will be available via ESPN3 next year. I imagine almost every sport that will be the case because the schools are investing in permanent infrastructure to air from their stadiums.

Yeah, our AD said it would cost about $2MM to equip the facilities for the network.

we're investing $11m. I have no idea what all in, but it's a lot of cheddar for this. I'm hopeful it means we are at least streaming every single game in every sport.

That's a huge difference in spending. That makes me worry.

Friend,
IF....the SEC Network realizes there are 14 programs in the SEC, not 1 or 2.

Foe,
IF....they do not realize the above fact, then they will just have sore knees and facial muscles just like Emmert and Slive.

I was really surprised to hear our number and most everyone else seems to be closer to what y'all are doing. I also don't know how much things like fiber, production facility, and such should cost. It's entirely possible we are just redoing everything and y'all have more infrastructure in place.

I think it remains to be seen for UF. Honestly I wasn't too excited when it was introduced because we had a great thing going with SunSports. It brought in an additional $10 million per year and it would have probably seen a huge increase in the next round of negotiations. We already know that we are losing Breakfast with the Gators which is a pretty big deal and I worry about losing air time now that we have to share a network with 13 other teams.

The problem with Sunsports is that the exposure was regional. With the Dish deal the SECN is already national.

Plus Sunsports probably wasn't sustainable, so who knows if that next round would even come. If Texas can't make a single team network fly then no one can.

Conference networks won. Period.

The SEC is just playing catch-up.

It is not a question of the town. It is who ESPN employs, and those folks are ACC both in front of the camera and behind the scenes on the staff. If you think this is changing you are not paying attention. Host Communications was founded in the SEC and pro SEC. It employed SEC kids out of school and it was located in SEC turf. Host was bought by IMG College and the first thing they did was move it to ACC country and employing ACC folks at the entry level.

Tell me how ESPN is not a repeat of this?

You are spot on here. I live in Clemson, so my local sports radio comes from WCCP (the flagship of clemson athletics). I know for a fact because he has mentioned it on the air, one of their host, the play by play caller for Clemson Baseball has been hire by ESPN for the SEC Network for Basketball and other broadcast. Roy Philpott broke this news on his radio show a couple of weeks ago when clemson fired their play by play caller for football and he gave the reason why he could not take over that roll for football and basketball was for the fact he had been hired by ESPN to do things for the SEC Network.

It seems so obvious, yet people still think they will get more. It will be more for a single network but less than 14 dedicated networks.

That is the question that is not getting answered yet, and it is the real question subscribers should be asking. If I see SEC gymnastics on ESPN or ESPN 2 it means the rest of the country is seeing it too. If that gets moved to SECTV then SEC footprint folks will see it but folks watching ESPN or ESPN 2 will now be watching something else (most probably NOT related to SEC sports)

14 dedicated networks would never happen. Even if the LHN model was a huge success, only the Bama's, Georgia's, LSU's and UFs (maybe UK) could copy that model. And its not a huge success, so at best maybe some would have some sort of regional network without the SECN.

The reason for the SECN is that Big Six in the SEC are smart- they know they don't play themselves. It is worth taking a little less then you could earn on your own if that means a MSU never slips down to a AAC-level program.

That was the essential problem with the LHN or any single team network- no program is an island.

Plus there is a big chance that the "SEC Network" will have many spillover channels ALA the B1G Network.

Football games will still spill across all the ESPN networks.

For minor sports sure for a single game it is better to be on ESPN2, but since you only get a a game or two on there every season OVERALL you get more exposure having EVERY game on the SECN.

Once yall have it they will have to pry the thing out of your cold dead hands I promise you.

This is probably accurate.
