Your national championship 101 skills need help in football. You are obviously looking at a site to make your list. I don’t need a list. I know what’s legit and not legit. I’ll take you to school sometime.

And tell me what you see.

Lost the bowl game. It would be very tough to make an argument that Arkansas should be the champion. The reason Arkansas lost is because the starting QB got a shoulder injury in the second quarter and didn't return. The offense sputtered with just 7 points.
A better argument would be the 77 team.

Yes Arkansas doesn't claim it but Rotham named them a split champion. Considering how wild that year was and a perfect year for a playoff, it would be better to have split champions.

Just because a selector names a program a national champion doesn’t mean they get a national championship for that year.
Pre-AP titles are not recognized by a lot of people, especially media. Schools will claim what they want to. But it is known that pre-AP claims usually centered around playing in the Rose Bowl. Although there was no official selector before 1936, the Helms Athletic Foundation and National Championship Foundation are widely considered the most recognized.
Since 1936 and 1950, the Associated Press and UPI/Coaches/BCS titles are the most recognized selectors. The National Football Foundatuon (MacArthur Bowl) and Football Writers Association of America (Grantland Rice Trophy) are second tier honors but programs do recognize them as adding them to their totals. BUT they are not as legitimate as the AP and UPI/Coaches/BCS.
There are programs who claim titles who don’t officially have them but should have them. That’s another subject on its own.
Programs to claim titles in the AP era that were not awarded by the AP or UPI:
1938 Tennessee
1939 USC (claimed in 2004 offseason)
1941 Alabama (Bama fans here don’t like it)
1942 Georgia
1947 Michigan
1950 Tennessee (they should have it)
1952 Georgia Tech
1958 Iowa
1959 Ole Miss
1960 Ole Miss (deserved it)
1961 Ohio State
1962 Ole Miss
1964 Arkansas
1966 Michigan State
1970 Ohio State

Arkansas should claim 1965. If the rules hadn’t been changed for that year only, Arkansas would have been the champs. Alabama is going to claim it either way, but so should Arkansas. Just my opinion..

It’s not about Alabama claiming it. The AP named them national champions. Michigan State won the UPI prior to bowl loss.

Aggy can't claim a title in football that they have not won only one was in 1939.
