Yep, Thompson should make the transition just fine, he's already own big games for us. Also think Mizzou will handle their transition pretty easily as well, not sure about Georgia, I just haven't seen enough to tell.

A&M will struggle the most.

Marshall will make Auburn the preseason favorites, but I'm not sure that wouldn't happen even if AJ and Mett were coming back. Dak will have MSU fans going nuts later into the season than usual.

Winning does tend to do that but I'm certain how long AUB can sustain not passing as teams will adjust to him instead of assuming it was just other opponents who sucked. If Auburn and Marshall can develop his passing game he'll be amazing.

As to Mauk, I'm not yet sold. Good legs but an awful lot of his passes were caught only due to WRs going out of their way to help out the QB. Of course he'll be more experienced and have more reps next year so his development should be interesting to watch.

If Mauk can learn to put a little more touch on the ball and not throw a fastball every time he will be fine. Played in this type of offense since he was in middle school

Ya Thompson is so good you have to replace him in the 4th quarter.

The big question for USCe, imo, will be replacing the intangibles that Shaw brought to the table. Shaw is a warrior. It's tough to know how guys like that will be replaced sometimes. Someone on USCe's team will have to step up and be that leader.

Actually due to injuries the SEC has some experience coming back.

Tennessee - Josh Dobbs
Georgia - Hudson Mason
South Carolina - Dylan Thompson
Missouri - Maty Mauck
Vanderbilt - Robinette (I bet Franklin finds a better option though)
LSU - Anthony Jennings

And Driskell is returning from injury for UF.

The biggest ? is Bama's QB.

I don't see why everyone thinks it is gonna be a freshman or some transfer we don't even need. It's gonna be Alec Morris

It obviously doesn't help us considering how great Murray was, but Mason will have 3 OL, 2 RB, and 4 WR return on offense. The defense returns 10 starters.

Robinnette has decent legs from what I've seen but without Matthews, JUCO transfer, or other WR that shocks everyone, it's going to be hard for them.

Matthews is definitely the bigger loss. Robinette is equal to or better anyone at QB Vandy had before Franklin (not counting Cutler) in who knows how long. However, I'd expect to see him and Johnny McCrary splitting time. McCrary is quite the athlete who can throw the ball well from all reports coming out of Vanderbilt about him. Worst case scenario at QB is Robinette starting with McCrary running wildcat/option type stuff.

As for trying to replace Matthews, both Seymour and Kimbrow are juniors next year at RB to lighten the load on passing. Jordan Cunningham has flashed at times. Give him a full offseason workout routine to get to SEC build, and he could be a solid #1. DeAndre Woods RS this year, but all reports are that he could be a key guy to step up. Also, Trent Pruitt has shown some nice things to end this year. TE is also improving. It will be a replacement like committee just like it was for Zac Stacy from last year to this year.

Agreed. My 85 year old grandma (when still alive but possibly even now from the grave) could throw a ball and Matthews would catch it and make a play of it.

I like Robinette but I admit part of that is because he's a local boy done good but I doubt he can make up for not having a WR like Matthews.

Any chance of a surprise WR commit?

Also, do you think there's truth to the rumors that Boyd could return once his diversion is over and his record is technically cleared? I'd personally be mad beyond belief given the case. That he got reduced charges and in an unnecessary deal given the texts -- one no one else would get in a case like that -- and a diversion deal that even wipes his record clean when regular people wouldn't is infuriating, especially when regular people suffer for involvement in far less serious incidents. But rumors of a return do persist.

Personally, I think he's a very talented player but it's the kind of thing that should have consequences.

Why, what happened in the 4th quarter?

I don't follow recruiting all that closely just because recruits commit and decommit like it's the coolest thing ever. However, Trevon Lee (33 WR from ESPN while 93 on Scout, 4* and 3* respectively) seems the best bet of the WRs Vandy has offered. They have alrady gotten a commit from Kameron Uter (60 WR and 4* from ESPN). Last years class was chock full of WR talent though. Just haven't seen much of it with Matthews and Krause, who I think is really underrated, carrying the load.

Those rumors would be 100% false. And the way this article reads makes it clear that Vanderbilt never considered such an action.

Where new QBs struggle in the SEC is on the road. That doesn't bode well for us; road games next year at Jordan-Hare, the Swamp, Kyle, and Arky.

Our expected replacement has looked great in ltd time. Bowl game should tell us more.

Glad to hear it from someone more in the know. My feelings were this was an insane idea that would have enormous backlash here but after the Winston case I've lost confidence in teams doing the right thing unless I follow the coach closely but even then let's just say it's shaken to the point where the door on pretty damn heinous things that would be automatic disqualifiers don't seem so automatic anymore.

Something like that is quite frankly something I don't want happening anywhere in our state. No matter the school and especially since I've worked with both UT and Vandy.

PS. Thanks for the link.

Mauk is solid and experienced but is expected to be in a battle for the starting job with Eddie Printz a 6'3" prostyle passer out of Marietta GA

Nick Marshall for Heisman 2014...

I think Marshall has the potential but do you think he and Aubie can develop the passing game necessary to contend for it?

Also, do you think the lack of Auburn's passing game due to Marshall's bad throws, just not having much of a WR corps to break him in/establish chemistry or what? I can't see a Heisman with the current passing game -- maybe a nomination but not the award when he's playing QB instead of RB.
