Florida low key became a tough job with the emergence of Bama and Georgia's dominance. Also surrounded by Florida State and Miami.
That job used to be considered the best.
Same reason Tennessee and Auburn can't seem to find themselves anymore. Bama and Georgia are sucking the life out of those programs.

Texas couldn't win at a high rate in the Big 12.
What would make people think they will be a top job in a much tougher conference?

That state is probably the most recruited state in the nation. Much competition from out of state.
It doesn't help that UCF is now in a power 5 conference.

It is probably a good idea not to fire him after one losing season.
He complained that Arkansas wasn't getting enough money in NIL.
Now the big money supposedly heard and will deliver.

Cherry pick? Starting at 2012 when A&M and Missouri joined is not cherry picking. Starting at 2012 leaves out a 9-win 2010 season for Mullen.

this is easily the best/most accurate ranking (and comments) ITT; yet you are getting downvotes
A&M has spent the money to be a Tier 1, they have the facilities and get the recruits. It's the atmosphere from the AD and boosters that knock it down.
I think Jimbo honestly had something brewing there after the first couple seasons. But it was going to take time and work to do it right, and there was a lot of pressure applied (outside distractions) to speed up the process. "Hey, we're not spending for 8-4, you need to be in Atlanta NOW". That pressure and desperation caused a collapse... and it's not going away for the next guy. A&M has demands, not expectations. That's why they aren't Tier 1, because they can't hire a coach and then leave him alone to do what he needs to do.
You can do that at LSU, for example, because Saban did it and it worked. So after that, the AD and HC could tell the boosters "Hey Bob, that really sounds interesting. Now get out of my office, I've got work to do".
Being able to do that seperates the top tier from the rest of the ambitious group, and lets some teams be better than you'd expect (Kentucky now, Mizzou, etc).
NOT being able to do that bumps you down as a job prospect.

Auburn definitely not in top half of SEC. They just make you think it with their bS narrative.

Actually Mizzou is a sneaky good gig.. state produces enough elite talent to have a good base..can the coaches keep them to stay home is the key

Arkansas, Ole Miss and State are on the same tier.
Along with South Carolina and Kentucky.

How would you rank SEC football jobs by tier if they were all open today? Including OU and Texas. For me:
Tier 1: Bama, LSU, A&M, UGA, Texas
Tier 2: OU, UT, UF, Auburn
Big gap
Tier 3: Ole Miss, Arkansas, South Carolina
Tier 4: UK, Mizzou, Moo State
Vandy
What is your criteria for this hypothesis? Just curious really. Did you consider the financial stakes for said jobs? Fan support? NIL support? How about wasting resources? Stealing State resources from say a children's hospital to supplement the football program? I'm just curious.

There are only two tier one jobs in the SEC, Alabama and Georgia. And Georgia is only tier one now that Kirby has put them over the top. They were not before.

The Bama job after Saban leaves drops to Tier 2 but the athletic program overall at Bama is literally Tier 3 because all the “had” was 1-sport

I'd love to be a fired SEC coach. I could live on that shite forever.

A lot of short term memory by folks on this board. Gators are down right now but it really wasn’t that long ago they had this conference by the nuts for 15 years…

Agreed
When they have the best head coach(es).
Florida has competition but great advantages as well. If Nick or Kirby had been in Gainesville instead they would have likely enjoyed similar success.
JMO but I think you could sustain that kind of success at:
Tier 1: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas
Tier2: Auburn, Tennessee, Texas A&M
Tier 3: Missouri, MSU, Ole Miss
Tier 4: Arkansas, Kentucky, South Carolina
Tier 5: Vanderbilt
Missouri is a sneaky decent job. The Mississippi schools are too. A&M could be tier 1 if they landed a really great coach who could remake the culture.

That’s what I’m getting at.
Bama is tier 2 without Saban. And Georgia would be close to tier 3 if not for smart.
Remove the current coach and history and make an honest assessment.
I don’t think most fans in here can do that.
