also what if you did a sliding scale for importance by year?
current year = 100%
last year = 99%
20 years ago = counts 80%
50 years ago = counts 50%
etc etc.. maybe set a floor for around 50%?
something that makes the past count, but it counts a little less than the current year

Pearl is responsible for like 70 of our points.

Regardless of specific weights or metrics used, it's absolutely amazing that second place has a magnitude of only 27.5% of the points assigned to first place.
To put that into perspective, just the gap between first and second is more than the sum total of points for the teams in second, third, and fourth place.
Holy cow.

I’d get rid of the conference titles. All conferences are different. For basketball it’s all about the Tournament

Texas has been to the Final Four once and Elite Eight four times since the school was desegregated.
Florida has not only won the damn thing twice, they've been to the Final Four five times and Elite Eight nine times in that same span.
Ain't no way Florida is below Tejas.

This isn't a Historical Basketball Rankings then, its a NCAAT basketball rankings. It's fine just doesn't show the full picture.
I would add points to NBA draftees, ranked at end of regular season as well.
Hey, why not throw some Helms Titles in there too. Let’s see if Kentucky can break that 5,000 point ceiling.

The tournament used to be only 8 teams during some of OU’s and Texas’ E8/F4s, not sure that should be the same points as those during 64 team era.
Yeah I'm not sure if SOG accounts for this at all, but for a long time the tournament was only 8 teams and then expanded to 16 to 25 teams for a big period of time too. It was also competing with the NIT for some top teams and the NIT was considered by some in the early years to be the preeminent tournament. Just completely different pre-1975 (when it expanded to 32 teams and eliminated byes) and to some extent pre-1985 (when it expanded to 64 teams) and truly became the gauntlet we now know it to be.

The black security guard cheesin' in the background always gets me, as does the curly haired guy pointing to Hendo with his middle fingers (that doesn't count as flipping the bird, I don't think).

I think the the Regular Season Championship probably should carry a little bit more weight. Probably in line with a Sweet 16 if not a little more with just the randomness of the NCAAT.

Must be an Auburn thing. I don't think I'll do it because I'm not sure the recipient of the bird can make out he is being flipped off.

I agree with this. Florida should be above Texas.
Easy solution.
Winner = 200
Runner Up = 100
Final 4 = 50

I read a story a couple of years ago where one of the Auburn students in the gif who may have been exhibiting some unchristianlike behavior has become a youth pastor.

If your going to deduct for losing season shouldn’t you add for winning seasons?

Y'all have never really struck me as a bird flipping fanbase, except for what has been presented in this thread.
Man, what an amazing gif.
