Oof. At least Sumlin gave them that one good season.

A clear Big 3 at this point with Florida falling off.

To think they fired Kevin for going 7-5 and never missing a Bowl to paying over $100Mil to go 5-7 and haven't been to a Bowl in two years! SAD!

Mark Richt had 10 of those.

Such a damn good coach and great guy.

He just couldn't get them to the next level.

Richt averaged 10 wins a year for the 15 years he was at UGA. Kirby is doing better.

Richt was unlucky. Obviously Kirby has taken it to another level where they don’t need many breaks to get a NC shot, but Richt just needed to catch one more break (like most NC winners) and things never lined up.

A shame, because he is a great guy and probably had multiple teams better than Dooley’s NC team.

I think it's a hilarious that, everytime Richt's name is mentioned, everyone falls over one another to fawn over just how "great of a guy" he is and not "how great of a coach he was".

The worst thing that could have ever happened for our rivals was for UGA to grow a set of nuts and fire this "great man" and hire a "great coach".

And Richt did not average 10 wins a year. It was under 10 and I won't allow any of y'all to round that number up to prop him up as a coach.

frick that.

He can be a great man. IDGAF. He wasn't a great coach. He was better than Goof and Donnan, but this dude lost to Vandertucky and UCF.

I hope one of y'all hire him.

OBVIOUSLY!

I was just trying to give Richt his due for winning at a really high level the 15 years he was at UGA.

Richt was a great coach. No one lasts 15 years at a top 15 all time program like UGA without being great. Kirby is better, sure. Obviously UGA felt it was time to move on, and have been validated in that choice.

Think there is a not too difficult argument that Richt is your 2nd best coach ever, unless you are really attached to Dooley’s NC (which was just not that great of a team, had the benefit of a soft schedule, etc)

Kind of surprised considering the dumpster fire we were pre-Saban

Dude, this is a terrible take. Yes it was time to move on, but UGA had been in the wilderness for The end of Dooley tenure through Goff and Donnan. Put some respake on my man’s name.

Dooley’s team was great. They had Herschel Walker in his prime steamrolling everyone in his path. It was a sight to behold.
But in my opinion Richt was a better coach and Kirby is even better.
Everyone loved Richt. He was a great coach and an even better human being. It was a hard thing letting him go but time has shown it to be the right decision.
Kirby is creating an elite program that should be able to sustain their success. Georgia has all the resources needed for creating championships teams. Money, world class facilities, a huge rabid fan base, the best coaches, a quality education on a gorgeous campus, and Athens, the #1 college town in the country. It’s not hard to land the 5 stars. I’ll stop my Chamber of Commerce gushing now. But it’s all true. The future looks really bright in Athens
