Alabama has a lot of truly dedicated, spend money fans who have no connection to the school. Auburn doesn't have that, though we admittedly have plenty of no-connection fans who would self-identify as AU fans.
Alabama has about twice as many fans in the state than Auburn does (ppl who root for the school only). I cannot find the total number of living alumni for Bama but I can for AU. Auburn is the 11th most profitable program in college football that means there are a lot of sidewalk alums

Same can be said for bama.
Absolutely. Never said it wasn't. But this myth that Auburn fans promote that the fan base is made up of only "real" fans that went to school there is just that, a myth. I did the math on a similar topic, something like 20% of the AU fan base went to Auburn and that was a GENEROUS number. I can't get the numbers for Bama because they do not list the total number of living alumni.

More than likely less alumni then Auburn, and just basing that on AU having a larger student body for about 30 years

What the frick does it matter?

It's absolutely not a myth that we have a smaller bandwagon than schools of comparable prominence. We're smaller in both alumni base and fan base than most of our competitors, in some instances much smaller.
You can't account for "connections" to a school for obvious reasons. But, I estimate that the number of AU fans who didn't go to school at Auburn are far more likely to have lived in/near Auburn, have a family member or close friend who went to Auburn, etc. than Alabama fans.
Alabama simply has a much larger footprint. It is extremely rare that I meet an Auburn fan who simply woke up and watched AU on TV and decided to pull for Auburn. I meet Alabama and Georgia fans of that nature all the time.
It feeds on itself. You have more people and your reach is broader. There is a lot more exposure traditionally to Alabama than Auburn. Maybe that is changing, but traditionally Auburn is a much tighter knit school than Alabama, UGA, etc.

But the 40 years before that Bama had a larger student body I believe. How much bigger? The business school lists 45,000 living alumni. I could probably do the math if I looked at the percentage of students in the business school vs other colleges but because of shifting in what students major in I wouldn't put stock in the number.

I can only think of around 10 Auburn fans off of the top of my head that I work with currently, and none of them went there. They also don't donate money to the school outside of going to a game every couple of years.
But with that said, the last company I worked for did have several engineers that were AU grads (the conference room in the engineering area was actually called the plains conference room).
I think you are spot on with the fact that there are a lot of sidewalk Bama fans that give a lot of money to the university, but the AU sidewalk fans for the most part don't.

Yes, but the schools were much smaller then, and you have to account for the age.
30+18+a few more since bama has more now for the past couple years = roughly about 50+ years old
Like I said, just an assumption based upon an educated guess

We have a lot of sidewalkers, but we aren't even in the same conversation as Bama, IMO.
There are plenty of Arkansanians who don't even football. As a state we are not as crazy about it as Alabama, in my big ole valid opinion.

You have to add "have a weird connection to a former high school coach that now coaches hundreds of miles away at a rival institution but I'm still going to put their bumper stickers on my car" to the list, there are thousands of AU fans locally that fall into that list. I wonder how many of them could even find Auburn on a map, but love them some Gus.

Not what I said. I said it is a myth that AU fan base is mostly alumni. It's not. I would bet that AU's fan base is the smallest of the Big 6 because they share a low population state with another Big 6 school.

I can only tell you what the numbers are. If this is a new myth you want to create to keep this "real fan base" thing going, have at it because as we know if you can't prove something is false it must be true.

I would absolutely agree that Auburn is a smaller fan base because they share a small state with the most successful program in college football. AU fans like to feed on this underdog status and they are correct in that.

If I had the time I bet I could come damn close to getting a real number on the total living Bama alums.

Tennessee
Bama
LSU
Florida
Auburn

However you want to rank them is fine with me....
nope...Auburn has a VERY small number of sidewalks

For football we're down there with Vandy. For basketball, however, we're in a class of our own for sidewalk fans. They can be unbearable even for those of us who actually graduated from UK.

Oh, where were these numbers posted?
I accept your inability to refute any of my assertions. For such a successful and prominent program supporter, you sure are touchy about any claims of the less successful and less prominent program in state.
