Times from the Opening are not legit. The kids this year were faster, and jumped higher than the guys at the Combine.

UF is the greatest unknown in the SEC this year. Honestly, no one has a clue. Even UF fans that actually know the roster and understand the injury situation from last year don't really know how it will all work out. But I've said it before and I'll say it again, if UF has even a serviceable offense they will win the SEC east and shock everyone, because the defense is going to be nasty again, especially now that it's healthy.

I agree. SEC is wide open for the taking this year.

Both divisions will go down to the final weeks.

I can see both east and west champs with 2 losses.

UF will have an improved offense, lots of players back. New OC.

Defense will be solid, lots of talent.

Special teams will be a question mark.

The SEC East IMHO will be decided on Nov 15th when USCe visits the Swamp.

USCe has the bye before that game. I don't like that.

But their record in the swamp is comforting.

I don't think it's possible that our offense isn't improved.

UF's special teams are gonna be a lot better this year.

Debose leads the SEC in KO returns for TDs and Hardin will be a sophomore after a rough first year as a FG kicker.

Until this year, they were fine. The surface they had this year was some new of Nike's and was a large part of why they were so fast this year. Although, if you actually look at the numbers and not just listen to message board bitching, there were a large number of players that ran numbers very close to what they'd run at other camps.

But hey, if you want to be dense enough to believe that Gurley doesn't run a 4.4, go for it. Marshall ran his lasered 4.25 at UNC's camp, and that is well faster than anything any SC back ever put up.

As for verticals, you see that little mat they were jumping off of? That was a horrible idea by someone organizing the event and you should definitely take vert numbers from there with a grain of salt.

Exactly. That's the Gamecock perspective ... mean Sonny (lulz) doesn't remember it that way.

The stop & the drive

If you have 1st and goal from the 8 yard line and you can't punch it in... you absolutely do not deserve to win.

Remind me to tell you how it is the teams who run the football the best when opponents know that they want to run the football that win the biggest games.

I'm sure the gamecocks have seen a post or two by me about rushing touchdowns and how they lead to conference championships.
That video is an excellent example of why you suck and can't bring home a conference title

Well we didn't finish 9-4 last season, so we got that going for us.

Which is nice.

Finishing 11-2, #4 in the country is sucking?

I'm sure that's Spurrier's goal every year. Let's have a nice season.

It's pretty cut and dry.
If you can't run the football into the endzone, you can't win the big games.
UGA won the Eastern Division in 2011. But we couldn't run the football. And we sucked balls because of it. We lost every big game on the schedule.

The next time you fail to convert points on a 1st and goal, don't say that I didn't tell you so when you earn the L on your record.

2013:

SEC 3rd down conversions:

USC: 6th
UGA: 9th

4th down conversions:

USC: 2nd
UGA: 6th

Red Zone Conversions:

USC: 4th
UGA: 5th

Your rushing TDs was better, too.
Mike Davis is a beast.

Too bad the thread is titled SEC East 2014 and Gurley/Marshall/Sony/Chubb will be in the backfield for UGA.

The better team will run the football better. We'll see if our OL can get us closer to our 2012 numbers.

Can the .... Mizzou fans of the board please give me a fairly unbiased breakdown of their ...team..

happy to, remember last year? expect a whole lot more of the same.

It all starts at the line, and Mizzou will come back strong this year with 3 returning starters and a great number of returning subs with game experience and upper class development. In some ways that slew of injuries from two years ago actually helped us, as we had more kids moving around and getting experience early out of necessity. I think this may also be somewhat the case for UGA though I'm not speaking for them, but at some point only so much can go wrong and we are back this year not with just a strong core of starters but significant players behind them. Barring another wipeout of injuries we will be strong on the OL and that will apply to TE position as well.

Last year may have been a perfect storm but when Josh Henson took over for Dave Yost it was immediately apparent we had an upgrade at the OC, making adjustments that mattered and tweaking the team for the SEC well beyond what we might have expected.

Though there are new faces at skill positions, there will be plenty of names who have seen the field before, and the absence of Henry Josey should not be an issue, not only do we return two of the triumvirate of star RB's, one of the best spring performances came from Morgan Steward who is expected to take up the reins as a bigger but still versatile RB with great balance.

At receiver it's more of the same, guys behind the starters will take over and most of them already have had years of developing and creating chemistry with (somewhat)new QB Maty Mauk. Let's face it, most Mizzou fans would have loved to see Mauk take over at QB permanently last year, calculating the upside he has right now is difficult, he may not be the prototypical 6'4" 230lb NFL QB, he does share some of physical traits with a certain recent Heisman winner though. When Mauk took all of two plays to put 6 on the Gator defense in his very first start, we knew the kid just might be special.

On the defensive side we will still have a host of the D line that played the lions share of last season, on the inside the DT depth is better and maybe A LOT better than a year ago. If early depth chart is any indication we will be 3 lines + deep on the inside, so the real question is how well Golden and Ray will be backed up on the ends. If you've followed Mizzou football much you know that one the best positions the Pinkel staff has shown a penchant for development is defensive line, relative unknowns like Aldon Smith and Mike Sam are just a couple of examples of players who had some nice college careers. The idea that Mizzou is suddenly out of quality DE's would not be a good bet. Defensive backfield is another area with enough depth to suffer a few vacancies, if there is a real question on D it would be how well we can replace two starting Linebackers. Again we have quietly picked up the same kind of recruits that MU has been known for over the years, no flash appeal names, just kids who quietly work themselves into NFL jobs.

You see it's really not a matter of did we recruit enough 5 star guys to replace the ones we lost, because we never really had more than a couple to lose in the first place. There's really nothing different about this team than any that Pinkel has had in previous years who have turned in 10 or more win seasons more often than not in the last 8 or so years.

or you can trust the USC fans that tell you we are going to finish 1 game ahead of the basketball school...

If the first 2 years in the SEC has taught me anything, it's that the SEC East 2014 will come down to health. The teams that stay the healthiest are there at the end. The teams that suffer injuries, fall out of contention. Don't think it's possible to predict who is hit hardest by the injury bug but think it's safe to say 1 or 2 teams will be.

But who is UK out-recruiting?

Per 247's 2014 team rankings:

Arkansas
Missouri
Vanderbilt
Mississippi State

Depending on how many of the class for USCe makes it to school, you can potentially add USCe to that list.
