This sounds like Texas knows they're about to be forced to play an SEC game every year in A&M so, dammit, the rest of their conference should too.

I don't know. This seems like a good chance for the SEC to set LSU up with Texas or OU as a permanent opponent while handing Kansas to Bama.

Big picture, it's a great idea but it needs to be after the next round of re-alignment and the breakup of the ACC. If that happens you could have this slate of games:

UF/FSU
USC/Clemson
UNC/NC State
VT/WVU
UGA/GT
A&M/Texas
Mizzou/KU

Then you put the rest on a rotating schedule since there are no natural rivalries or you could force some.

LSU/OU
Arkie/OSU
Ole Miss/Tech
State/TCU
Vandy/Baylor
Kentucky/Iowa State
Bama/Notre Dame (this could actually happen)
Auburn/KState
UT/Miami

In current form though it doesn't make sense, pairing a 10 team and a 14 team league is awkward and the Big 12 gains more from it than the SEC. If we go to 16 team conferences though an alignment of games like the one I proposed would be a lot of fun, it would preserve a ton of rivalries, and it would just be good for college football in general. One issue would be if the games are played the same weekend which could cause problems as it puts rivalry weekend games into conflict (some are rivalry weekend now and would want to stay and I don't think anything is ever going to get Auburn/Bama to shift to anything but rivalry weekend. That's a lesser point though.

Oh, and I absolutely think this is about Texas and KU trying to get A&M and Mizzou back on their schedule while saving face. Texas esp wants to feel "forced" to have to play A&M again even though they need the game more than we do. Texas is locked into a crap home schedule for eternity right now and can only fix it with OOC games (OU game will always be in Dallas). KU already didn't care about football but now they really have nothing to get excited about other than watching KState crush them every year but the KU/KState hate isn't really there, esp compared to Mizzou.

I'd love to get to play TCU. Rebel fans would feel right at home in Sundance Square. Twenty minute drive from DFW and plenty of places to stay. Besides, I've been to Manhattan, Kansas. There's nothing there. I mean... nothing.

Also, I don't want any sticking Arkansas fans in my home state. Let them freeze their asses off in Kansas.

I can't imagine UT vs A&M, though. There's so much bad blood between those schools and how everything went down with A&M joining the SEC. I'd be surprised if they wanted anything to do with UT.

A&M and Texas do hate each other and the bad blood is flowing but if you think the Big 12 and SEC will start a round robin and the 2 Flagship schools in Texas won't play each other after 120 years of doing you are nuts. A&M sure as hell doesn't want to play Tech, TCU, or Baylor though I am sure they would love to play us so they could have a chance of actually filling their stadium once every 2 years.

Cause it was good football. The game opened me up to texas and ultimately a&m. Both sides need to get over themselves. The game is good for the state

It will be a rotating schedule changing every year. Whoever finished last in the BIG 12 gets Bama every year and whoever finished first gets LSU (Unless they have no one coming back, in which it goes to the next hardest opponent)

Prefer this one in 2014 where A&M opens up Baylor's new toilet-seat looking stadium. We could then claim eternal first scoreboard on them.

I'd take TCU for now since I'd have a free place to stay on that trip. But it would be great to get a shot or two at Tejas and WVA would be a good trip too.

OU or OSU since they are so close in proximity to us. A rivalry would develope quickly. Too many damned OU fans here in NWA.

I'd heard that Bowtie and the rest of the BOR were sick of all things UT, near the end there with the LHN and errand boy, Dan Beebe. I think they were especially sick of anything to do with making UT more money at the expense of the A&M label. Which this game would be.

At this point, UT needs A&M a lot more than the other way around. Make no mistake that UT is a mere slip away from returning to the days of McWilliams and Mackovic.

Besides, the UT/A&M matchup isn't much more historic than the Arkansas/A&M matchup. Or even the LSU rivalry. The Southwest Classic was one of the biggest games in the old SWC days. Yes, I realize that the UT rivalry had been played every year, but screwing over a fellow state school out of millions of dollars tends to rankle a few people.

Anyone who doesn't think that the Big 12 wouldn't jump at the chance to get Arkansas and Texas playing each other again is either mentally challenged or has zero knowledge of college football history. Texas was so butthurt at Arkansas leaving the SWC, they put together an 8 minute skit at halftime in our last game in 1990. Only referring to us as "Money-loving non-Texans."

to be fair, they get really butthurt pretty much every time somebody doesn't follow their lead.

I don't doubt that Texas would like it. But I don't think the other teams in the conference would care any.

Kind of like I don't think UT would care if OU was big on playing Nebraska again. Doesn't really serve the conference, just the team with the rivalry.

Nah, I just happen to live in the state of Texas, and actually went to games when Arkansas was still in the SWC.

And you still haven't figured out that the Big 12 is nothing but a dictatorship?
