Let me know just how serious you are about banking on it. I recently aquired a little discretionary money, so like I said, let me know just how serious you are to "bank on it."

What part of this language in the SEC's bylaws is possibly unclear?

“If at any time before or after matriculation in a member institution a student-athlete or any member of his/her family receives or agrees to receive, directly or indirectly, any aid or assistance beyond or in addition to that permitted by the Bylaws of this Conference (except such aid or assistance as such student-athlete may receive from those persons on whom the student is naturally or legally dependent for support), such student-athlete shall be ineligible for competition in any intercollegiate sport within the Conference for the remainder of his/her college career.”

The point is the SEC bylaws were violated by Cecil Newton (Cam's father; his closest family member). The SEC (Slimely Slive) should have taken action (in accordance with SEC bylaws) in the only meaningful way they can. Make the player ineligible to play in all SEC schools.

Auburn's only violation is NOT declaring Cam ineligible immediately when Cecil Newton admitted guilt. Auburn did not due that because Cam might have missed games before he could be reinstated. Auburn making him ineligible and the immediate reinstatement was a sham.

Everyone understands action should have been taken.

Except, Slimely Slive and a few nitwit Auburn homers.

I'm just curious. Who holds Mike Slive accountable for his actions or is he at the top and can do whatever he pleases to do?

Slime actually works for each of the SEC schools. The presidents are his boss.

now here's an unbelievably bad idea. congress should not be involved in college athletics in any way, shape, or form.

The "deny until you die" mantra seems to be alive and well, no?

Denial implies that one is not conscious of the behavior. Cecil Newton knew exactly what he was doing, and any third-grader could read the SEC bylaw and discern immediately the grounds for Cam Newton's instant ineligibility.

Ignore it if you feel like it but...

In the REAL WORLD soliciting something that is against the rules implies you are agreeing to receive it. Not finding a willing partner doesnt absolve you.

Its not apples to oranges. Its a NORMAL STANDARD. Its the only way that SEC By-law even makes sense as written. The rule is VERY CLEAR. It is very obvious that Cam Newton is in violation of it.

The POINT is that Slive had it in his hands to end this by applying the rules of his conference under their most reasonable and obvious understanding. INSTEAD he decided to split hairs, make more money, create a massive loophole, and then act like his hands were tied.

They weren't. This could have stopped with Slive and he dropped the ball.

tigersruledude,

You completely nailed it.

When even more of the facts of the matter around this pay for play scam come to light, this will become the Shame of the SEC.

if you look hard at the ncaa and the usc/bush crap, the sec is just taking advantage of the norm.
the ncaa dragged usc along for 5 years, hopeing it would disappear.
the ncaa/sec is going to hope the camgate disappears also.

"In this way, the SEC lacks institutional control. Slive has got to go and the SEC offices need to be moved out of Birmingham."

I've actually gotten to the point where I agree with this but I don't necessarily know that it will get any better regardless of where it's moved. While we're at it, the NCAA is no better than the SEC and is every bit as corrupt. The NCAA offices should be moved as well because the Big 10 has free reign to cheat their brains off and get away with it.
