Here is what I wish we would do: Form a committee of ten very sports savvy alums, all of whom are devoted to LSU. Their task is to identify the best high school coaches in all 64 parishes in the state. Focus on those coaches under 40 years old and through consensus identify the five best presently-working coaches willing to commit themselves to a long term process of building a magnificent program at LSU. Through a process of deep conversations (interviews) by each of the ten committee members one-on-one with each of the five prospective coaches, reach a consensus of which of the five coaches has the best vision for how he would build the program. Number one priority is three-fold: that the man has a deep love for Louisiana, a deep love for LSU, and is committed to enhancing the future of each and every player on the roster. Louisiana is second only to Georgia for "Top states for NFL players per capita." It is time to draw on the strength of home grown talent, and to extricate ourselves from this fantasy that throwing millions of dollars at some big name coach, whose best days are behind him, will somehow lift LSU to instant glory.

My favorite part of this touchdown pass was watching Daniels' throw his head back and howl with laughter (:06 on the clip) watching Trent Scott's end zone TD dance! Daniels' TD pass to Scott
The LSU football player whom I enjoyed watching play football while a Tiger more than any other was Tyrann Mathieu. On defense, I love how he focused less on tackling and more on taking the ball or stripping it out of the opponent's hands. And, on offense, his scampering was scintillating (especially the many times he returned punts for touchdowns.) Overall, the distinctive way he played (and even still plays) the game made watching football simply FUN.

Almost 54 years ago, on October 25, 1969, when I was eleven years old, my father took me to Tiger Stadium to watch LSU play Auburn. He bought us two tickets outside of the stadium... two seats directly behind the goalposts. What a game! Future Heisman Trophy winner Pat Sullivan had a great game and fought hard to keep Auburn in contention against the undefeated Tigers. A 12-yard touchdown pass right in front of us by Sullivan in the 4th quarter made the score 21-20. All Auburn had to do was successfully kick the extra point to tie the game. But instead linebacker George Bevan, just 20 yards in front of us, plowed through the line and blocked the extra point attempt, preserving a 21-20 lead (and ultimately a 21-20 victory) for LSU. In my entire life, I had never heard, nor have I ever since heard, a noise that loud. My ears would ring, joyously, for days.
Indeed... and it's called leadership.
Joe Burrow is a superb leader.
Drew Brees is too.

Haven't been to this site in over a year at least... 'til tonight.

I forgot how it's regarded as a capital offense to post anything here that perhaps has been posted before. Had I recalled the unrelenting nature of such unyielding pettiness, I wouldn't have bothered. ;-)

Nonetheless, if you haven't read this piece, it's an interesting read... and speaks well to the power of the greed that will very likely ultimately destroy college football.

“Michigan athletics used to feel like something we shared. Now it’s something they hoard. Anything of value they put a price tag on. Anything that appeals to anyone is kept locked away—literally, in some cases—and only brought out if you pay for it. And what’s been permanently banished is any sense of generosity.”

Gotta really hope they can learn from this unbelievably horrifying sloppiness, and after playing such beautiful football.
