Capacity matters in terms of atmosphere and the like, but unless you are at 100% and just can't get any higher then I think the # of people there does matter in terms of telling a story of general excitement/disappointment in the program.
I don't think Ole Miss (as an example because of arena size) drawing 7,600 (80%) is somehow a lot better than South Carolina drawing 11,700 (64%). An additional 4K fans per night for basketball is a huge difference.
Now, there is a definite argument to be made on what the ideal arena size is.......but that's a different discussion. JMHO.

LOL - gotta think a lot of that was early season excitement with that freshman class. Once the road to 0-19 was starting to appear Memorial got pretty sparse. Of course, Vandy also gets a bump from so many SEC fanbases living in Nashville + the Kentucky/Tennessee games being basically guaranteed sell outs.

If VOLS are winning people show up and that arena is rocking.
And that’s a damn fun arena when it is. That’s one advantage of cheering for a perennial power. You typically get to see opposing fan bases at their best.

What was it before? Our arena seats 18,000 and was designed to host other events like concerts etc. We can sell it out during the odd time that the team is good and there is a big game but it's rare. Most of the time that 11-12k makes it seem like a cavern that's barely 1/2 full. Our old arena was 12,000 and it was great, intimate, and loud.
Went from somewhere north of 12K down to 10K. Wasn’t a huge drop, but it knocked out a lot of the local season ticket holders. I imagine this is only a stop gap measure until we build something new. Needed renovations in the worst way, but it’s not an ideal basketball venue given its start as a true mutlipurpose arena.
For a school UF’s size we should probably be in the 12-14K range.

I mean Cameron Indoor has an electric atmosphere and holds very little amount of people
Especially when it’s smaller and the fans are on top of you.
It sounds very empty at our arena, could the same be said for Ole miss?

Totally agree - the argument over size of arenas is a legitimate one. We've been arguing for years that whenever we massively renovate/demolish Coleman the replacement should clearly be smaller (currently 15,316, should definitely be more like 12,500). You then go from drawing 11K and having it feel spread out to having it feel really crowded. And when things are good tickets are hard to get and the place is at 100% as opposed to being sold out some times and at 90% others.
However, just in terms of the fanbase caring/excited about the program, having 6,750 show up a night isn't a good sign - even if it is 75% capacity.

I think the ideal mixture is a combination of taking the nice well designed intimacy of the new Auburn and Ole Miss arenas and combining that with the size and quality of South Carolina's new arena.
I think Texas A&M came closest to achieving an ideal balance when they built their new arena...Reed Arena. It takes the sight lines and general configuration of Ole Miss's new, very nice, but much smaller arena (which I really like a lot btw) and also Auburn's nice new arena to a slightly less degree and manages to add 50% more seating capacity than those two arenas while managing to still incorporate the intimate feel that makes those smaller arenas great.
Reed Arena holds right at 13,000.

Don't we know it. I'd like to see these numbers adjusted to exclude the UK games. See how far they all drop when they don't have the UK factor influencing attendance, both via our fans buying up the tickets and their fans actually showing up for one game a year.

Are you under the impression that non-UK SEC games are barren wastelands that resemble HS JV girls game attendance?

LSU is already way ahead of last season in season ticket sales. I expect our ticket sales will be much higher per game than in 2018-19.
The PMAC holds 13,200+. I hope we never reduce that capacity or build one smaller. We already reduced capacity from the 14,400+ when it opened in 1972.

13K is a pretty good size - I also thought our ideal capacity should be somewhere between 12-14K.
Enough that non conference games with 7-8K feel populated, SEC games are packed and the biggest games are really hard tickets.
10K or less is too small, 15K or more is too big.

Yeah we were over 100% for the UK game. We also had 100% for Charleston Southern though.
