Having said that, no chance it goes away, too much money at stake to allow other conferences to have the spotlight.

You could just play a final regular season conference game that weekend, instead, and not lose any spotlight.

I'm in agreement with this. If teams are tied, give them a co-championship. It's not that big of a deal. Highest ranked team in CFP rankings gets the bye in the CFP. Easy.

They should eliminate conference championship games and expand the playoffs to 16 schools.

They lost me when they stopped taking the best teams. The only hope for this new mess is that it's a 2-year wonder. In 2 years, I hope that superconferences have fully mobilized the troops and Sankey has led us out of the NIL jungle.

My hope is that the ACC and B12, as we know it, have been assimulated into these 2 new superconferences, much as the Borg intended for all mankind, and teams like Liberty and Memphis don't threaten to take a spot at the table each year.

Yes, there is much work to do to try and unring this 12-team playoff bell. A huge step back from the 4 team playoff and BCS.

It was fun while it lasted. Unfortunately, I can foresee teams, safely in the PO, resting starters. We all love the last week of the NFL season when the playoffs are already decided, don’t we?

yeah, I am waiting on the first team to opt out...

Because in 2027 when the new contract is signed with the 24/24 or 32/32 Big 10 and SEC. Big 10 and SEC championships will become the national semifinals like the AFC/NFC

You think they’re getting rid of the extra games they just got through?

More games = more money

Isn’t that essentially what the game already is?

You can’t determine who those teams are going to be a week early. What if there’s ties.

How about a different approach? Save the last conference game week as an open date then match 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4, etc.

Still get the marquee game that defines the conference champion but saves a game of wear and tear so teams can be ready for the expanded playoff.

If they eliminated the SECCG, let’s say UGA and LSU are undefeated and “split” the championship.

Who gets the P5 first round champion bye? Ranking?

A complicated tie-breaker, dice or rock, paper scissors. It doesn’t matter. If both teams are already a lock for the playoffs, I don’t see a compelling game or storyline to tell. I’m not risking my starters for it.

This is where wild tiebreakers come in. Record against common opponents, road conference teams, conference opponent combined records. Wild stuff would happen one team may need an egg bowl upset, one team will need Florida to stay ranked another would need fsu to knock them out the top 25.

Without conference champions, we would have to go back to the best 12 teams to make the Playoffs. We would lose a ton of revenue and completely lose sight of the reason for the season.

It’s especially stupid with no divisions. You could have a team getting a second chance at a team that already beat them. More chance for avoidable injuries.

You don't need a Conference Championship game to have a Conference Champion.......

You don't think a final week of conference games with playoff implications on the line for multiple teams could generate as much revenue an SEC Championship game where both teams are already in a 12 team playoff?

I’d like see it retired. Add a 9th conference game instead. At some point we’ve got to realize the sheer amount of games is going to become unmanageable
