The last 4 years of Arkansas basketball would be the best 4 year stretch in Auburns history.

Let’s not forget Pearl has only gotten out of the first weekend one time

You are welcome to argue that one with the Auburn folk

Nick Saban is the greatest thing to ever happen to Auburn basketball.

What a load of crap. Come by the office later and pick up your participation trophy. smh

Just say I chose it because that’s when AU became good. You sound like a gator fan arguing 1990

Going into that season, Kentucky had won 3 consecutive SEC regular season titles and 3 consecutive SEC Tournament titles. They had won 5 out of the previous 8 regular season titles.

Since then? They’ve now won just one regular season title in 8 seasons…now 5 straight years without one. That’s never happened since the SEC was established in 1933.
In 2005, Kentucky had won either the SEC tournament or regular season title every year since 1992. Starting in 2006, over the next 9 years, Kentucky only won 4 combined (out of 18).

Why wasn't that the turning point in SEC basketball?

Yeah. I’d say that has an argument to be a major turning point season. But the Cats had way more success in this era you speak of than they’ve had as of late.

During this 9-year stretch you speak of from 2006-2014, Kentucky had 3 teams out of 9 either win the SEC regular season or the SEC Tournament (33%).

Compare that to this most recent 8-year stretch, and Kentucky has had just 2 such teams win an SEC title of some sort (25%), and barring a miraculous run in Nashville, this will be five seasons in a row with zero SEC Titles of any sort… again, a first for Kentucky going all the way back to when the SEC began in 1933.

Secondly, since Auburn eliminated Kentucky in the 2019 Elite 8, the Cats have one lone NCAA Tournament game victory in five seasons.

The period you mentioned from 2006-2014 saw 20 Kentucky NCAA tournament wins including a National Title and 3 trips to the Final Four.

Yeah so this really isn’t the same at all.

What exactly is the “narrative”? That Auburn has been good at basketball these past & seasons? Yes, that sounds about right. That’s the point.

I mean, if I was an Auburn fan, I would probably try and bifurcate SEC basketball history into two distinct "pre Bruce Pearl's first good season at Auburn" and "since Bruce Pearl's first good season at Auburn" buckets too.

But just understand that everyone knows why you picked 2017-18.

Of course they do. That’s when Auburn and Tennessee both turned the corner to go on an 8-year stretch (and counting) of being the SEC’ two best programs.

That’s the point. Good find Sherlock.

You can trifurcate Auburn basketball into 1984-1988, 99-00, and 2017-

The rest is pure trash despite playing ball since 1905.

Yes. You can also throw in there 1958-1960. We had 3 pretty good teams in those years.

But your point is valid.

Because most people on this board weren’t born last time Arkansas was actually an elite basketball program. My oldest son turns 30 in May. He wasn’t born yet since last time Arkansas won the SEC and mattered nationally.

lol…AU basketball fans are the gift that keeps on giving. He actually believes one program that has never made a Final Four has had a better basketball program over the last 8 years than a team that made the Final Four in those 8 years and had an additional conference championship.

He also believes another team that only made it out of the 2nd weekend once in the 8 years, with the same number of conference titles and same number of Final Fours is a better program than another program that had all those accomplishments plus 2 additional sweet 16s. Sure, a handful of additional conference wins is worth more than 2 additional trips to the 2nd weekend in March. Have to love AU Bball fans, 8 years in to watching CBB and they still don’t get it.
