Have you watched the teams below them in my rankings?
State is playing with freaking walk-ons- anything above being 14th this year is gravy

5. Alabama
6. LSU
7. Texas A&M
8. Arkansas
9. Tennessee - I'm sorry Vols fans, but that offense is pathetic.
-Top 2 are correct. I'm surprised Missouri is playing as well as they are; didn't they graduate 3 or 4 starters?
-I'd put Ole Miss ahead of UK (as it's a power ranking, which focuses on how the teams are doing now). Admittedly Ole Miss hasn't played anybody yet.
-I guess Bama's good at #5. They've lost to the only 2 decent teams they've played, but both of those were close.
-LSU's winning, but they haven't played anybody with a pulse yet. #6 is good now, but they could swing wildly in either direction once conference play starts. Their game against a pretty decent Boise St team should give us an idea of how good they are. Blowout win=real potential, close W or L=middle of the pack SEC, bad loss=bottom half of the conf (though better than the nameless bottom 5)
-A&M at #7 seems high after last year (we were really bad) and because we were blown out by a very good, but not great, SLU squad. That said, the bottom 5 are awful and Arky and Tenn seem very meh, so maybe that's good.
-Arky getting blown out by a bad ASU team is embarrassing.
-Tenn should probably be #8 ahead of Arky. I think their offense will get back to passable, and then they'll be possibly top 5-6

Yes, but there's something a lot of people didn't realize about Missouri. In his last year at Mizzou, Anderson did not have one single commit. Not one, and Haith was hired too late to have a recruiting impact for last year. There were no freshmen on the roster last season. Instead, Haith went after, and got, some fantastic transfer kids who could have immediate impact once they were available.
We picked up Alex Oriakhi, Tony Criswell, Keion Bell, Earnest Ross and Jabari Brown. And played with basically a 7-man rotation last year. This year, we're a lot bigger, more athletic, and a deeper team. And we're very talented, but they're still trying to figure out how to play with each other.
Losing Dixon last week didn't help, but Jabari Brown becomes available after this week, and will likely be the #2 point guard. We have the tools to have a great season, jut depends on whether they can get better on perimeter defense and screens, and play well together instead of as individual players.

semotruman,
Ah, yea I didn't know that. Hope it works out. I definitely feel some kinship with Mizzou as one of the other schools that'd had enough of the dysfunctional Big 12 (no conference-wide network and no plans for one, bad TV deal, pandering to Deloss Dodds, and all the other BS), so I wish you guys the best except when you're playing us. Also, the SEC needs some basketball depth. UK and UF aren't enough, so hopefully you all can keep your program at a high level and be another perennial tourney team

Thanks, and I feel the same way about A&M. I have to say, with realignment heating up again, it sure feels good to watch from here, doesn't it?
The Atlantis tournament was tough for us, and they played like crap in the loss to Louisville. But, we got some decent tests from Stanford and VCU, and then the other night from SEMO - I think they were looking ahead and had come back to win that one, which was good for them.
Hope we can both add some depth to the SEC.

Vanderbilt actually looks decent tonight. 47-47 tie @ Xavier with about 8 minutes left.

If we are at #7 at the end of the year, I'll be pretty shocked. Our team is talented, but we're young and inexperienced. I think we'll have some growing pains this year
