...through 27 completed seasons. this year is the 28th SEC season with 12+ schools.
26 - Kentucky
20 - Florida
15 - Arkansas
13 - Tennessee
11 - Mississippi State
10 - Alabama, Georgia, Vanderbilt
9 - Ole Miss
8 - LSU
5 - South Carolina
4 - Auburn
* 2 - Texas A&M, Missouri (6 seasons)
Georgia, Missouri, Texas A&M & Vanderbilt are the 4 schools this season who are unable to finish with a winning SEC record - with 6 games remaining.
Kentucky is the only school to not have a losing SEC record in the 12+ member era of SEC basketball.

About right. Which is why this year feels like such a waste because of such a terrible OOC performance. All you had to do was beat a terrible Wyoming and Ok. State teams and a decent Stony Brook team and I'd feel good about us getting into the tournament.

As bad as we've been, this is somewhat surprising

Anderson has had a winning SEC record in 5 of his 7 full seasons. he could make it 6 of 8 this year.

Success is based on context. Going 10-8 most years when playing Kim Anderson's Missouri, Johnny Jones' LSU, Andy Kennedy's Ole Miss, etc. is not impressive. At Arkansas, this is unnacceptable.

Matt Jones of KentuckySportsRadio.com, who sometimes appears on Finebaum, said that he thinks Tennessee football is the equivalent of Arkansas basketball in terms of quality of program and history. Do these numbers make that argument seem more legitimate?

Alabama basketball has been so consistently mediocre for the last 25 years.
- 22 of the 28 seasons we've finished within 4 games of .500 either way.
- We've had 5 of 28 seasons with a 75% or better SEC Win %. We've had 1 of 28 seasons with a 33% or worse SEC win %.
- 3 overall losing records in 28 seasons
- 19 of 28 seasons with between 17 and 23 overall wins
Just frickin incredible

The Vol football program has a richer history then the Arkansas basketball program, and I'm not knocking the Hogs when I say that. Arkansas has a very rich quality of the program and history when it comes to basketball both before and after we joined the SEC.
I would say both programs demonstrate how quickly a program can fall from being on top of the world to middle of the pack or lower with poor coaching hires.
The Vols have been stuck in the middle of the SEC East pack ever since Phil Fulmer stopped waddling the sidelines. Arkansas went from a perennially ranked team that made deep runs in the NCAAT to a program that is likely looking at only making the Big Dance 3 times out of the last 8 years. And that is with the best coach we've had since we got rid of Nolan Richardson.
Be careful what you wish for when you show a legend the door.

quote:I know it is. Anderson wins just enough games to hang on. he did get screwed when his 26-8 (13-5) team was given a 5 seed in the West and had to play under-seeded North Carolina as a 4 in Jax 2nd Rd/2015 NCAAT. that Hogs team was long/tall and should have been a Sweet 16 team if it were given the correct seeding.
At Arkansas, this is unnacceptable.

I am not saying this to mock the Tide basketball program, but how the heck do you pull that off?
I mean, some good years, some bad, quite a few average ones... sure. But almost every year being average?

No doubt. One of the Arkansas fans will have to go into detail here, but don't they have a very suspicious history of always getting paired up with UNC in the early rounds of the NCAAT?

It's an astonishing feat. We're #BubbleU. You can write us down for 18-13 (9-9) in October and feel pretty good about it - regardless of coach, players, media expectations, etc.

I think Jones is incorrect in his comparison. Arkansas has been better at basketball than Tennessee has been in football since integration occurred in both sports.

LSU won the SEC in 09 at 27-8 (13-3) and the committee put us as the lowest 8 seed in overall #1 UNCs bracket....
A fricking 8 seed SEC champion
