In true Mississippi State fashion, I fully expect us to sweep Ole Miss then get swept by Mizzou.

While funny, there is no chance of that happening.. they are that bad. They may take 1 game.. but no way they sweep you guys..

Definitely don’t think we deserve #1. I’d say there’s a 50/50 shot Bama sweeps up this weekend
In the last 5 weekends, bams are 1-2 against each of Auburn, State, LSU, and Vandy and 3-0 against Mizzou. They aren’t sweeping anyone with a pulse (I.e., see aforementioned State)

Honestly, I really don't care where we rank as long as we are a top 8 at the end.

If only we had Coastal Carolina or Troy's schedule, we would be in line for a national seed

It’s all just ego posturing. Only thing that matters is national seed vs host vs rest of the field. Right now, seems like:
Top 8
Texas, Arkansas, UGA, UNC, FSU, LSU, Auburn, Oregon/Oregon State
- Texas, Georgia, Arkansas, LSU, Auburn, and Vandy are the only teams currently ranked top 8 in both RPI and ELO.
- Oregon State is 10th in RPI and 24th in ELO
- Oregon is 24th in RPI and 27th in ELO.
- But one of the two will get a top 8 apt because 1) geographic representation and 2) they’re not going to let more than 5 SEC teams be national seeds - if they even allow 5.
- FSU is 6th in RPI and 9th in ELO. Close enough, they’ll be a national seed.
- UNC is 9th in RPI and 4th in ELO. Likewise, close enough, national seed.
Top 16
Vandy, Clemson, Tennessee, Coastal, WVU, Oregon, UC Irvine, DBU
- Vandy should be a national seed if the committee isn’t afraid of making the national sites SEC heavy and they may still make it in with a big weekend in Knoxville. As of now, they’d be #9
- Clemson and Tennessee are nightmare opponents for a Super
- The rest of the field is pretty… fine. Some good seasons but feels like a gap between the top 3 and the other 5
- UCLA, Oklahoma, TCU, and NC State also in play for a host spot

but they are a weekly poll that rewards/deducts for each teams weekly performances.
Greatest start in SEC history + 1 road sweep vs team that lost 3 of their last 4 series vs 3rd ranked SEC team.
Pretty obvious winner

We get SC this weekend at home and expect a sweep. That should lock us into the top 8.

Would be great for seeding purposes, but they are a weekly poll that rewards/deducts for each teams weekly performances.
Lol what? They are ranking teams based on the entire season.

Perfect Game has been added to the OP.
I understand the argument for ranking Arkansas ahead of Texas, but this poll moved Arkansas from #12 to #2. That's quite a jump for a team that has lost 3 of the last 4 series..
That being said, I do feel like Arkansas has a better team than Texas.. so Idk how they should be ranked. The whole season has to count for something though..
As has been said, it doesn't really matter if you are #1 or #8 or anywhere in between as long as you are a National Seed. That makes a difference because of the opportunity to host a Super Regional.. they are going to pair the teams based on geography and conference after that, so the matchups don't really change.

yeah I see both sides of the argument. It's hard to get that arse kicking out of my head though. I may feel different if we play well this weekend.

If you look at the season as a whole, who has a better argument for #1?
I get that it’s based on the whole season, but I still have no idea how any poll can have Texas ahead of Arkansas after the way in which they were manhandled. If it was a close series then maybe I could understand the “whole season” argument. But at this point Arkansas > Texas > Georgia. Head to head has to mean something especially when they’re all bunched up at the top like this.

Then apply head to head for the rest of the teams Arkansas lost to

So you just ignore that Arkansas has lost 3 of the last 4 series?
To be clear, I don't know how you handle this. If Florida had swept us instead of Arkansas this weekend, would you put Florida ahead of Texas? If A&M had swept us last weekend and we had swept Arkansas, would you put A&M ahead of Texas?
It's a puzzle that isn't easy to solve.

Have you watched us?
We're good for one good game, pitching wise; otherwise either our starter gets walloped early or our bullpen squanders a big lead (like the last game).
We lack the arms to sweep anyone not named Missouri; how we managed to sweep A&M, I have no idea.
I'd be surprised if we take the series against UGA - we're more likely to take a game and lose the series 1-2, like usual. Mostly hoping we can find enough pitching to win the series against Florida.
I will say, considering how well we've done against some quality OOC opponents, I'm curious to see how well we do if we make it.

Remember, beating the Vols in baseball is like beating Bama at football in their prime?

True statement. Happy to see Georgia #1 - Mizzou near miss not withstanding.
Bottom line: these are polls...

I get it. I just personally feel, with that dominating performance, they should be in front of us. It's just my opinion. If people that do this for a living want to rank us ahead of them so be it.
The full body of work does and should matter. It's a recency bias thing I guess.

The differences at the top of the polls are interesting.
It's a toss up really...
