You should update with buyouts.

Sumlin’s salary for this year is set at $5 million, and his buyout number is currently $10.4 million.

You can see the methodology that USA TODAY used for the list here.

Here are the rest of the SEC coaches and their salary ranking and buyout:

11. Gus Malzahn, Auburn, $4.7 million, $6.9 million buyout

14. Dan Mullen, Mississippi State, $4.5 million, buyout not given

15. Jim McElwain, Florida, $4.46 million, $12.9 million buyout

17. Bret Bielema, Arkansas, $4.25 million, $5.9 million buyout

20. Butch Jones, Tennessee, $4.1 million, $8.1 million buyout

22. Mark Stoops, Kentucky, $3.76 million, $14.8 million buyout

23. Kirby Smart, Georgia, $3.75 million, $10.8 million buyout

28. Ed Orgeron, LSU, $3.5 million, $8.8 million buyout

37. Will Muschamp, South Carolina, $3.1 million, $7.2 million buyout

44. Derek Mason, Vanderbilt, $2.7 million, buyout not given

49. Barry Odom, Missouri, $2.35 million, $1.5 million buyout

72. Matt Luke, Ole Miss, $1.16 million, $1.4 million buyout

This is what it was. Ill look for more.

How does Matt Luke make more than Derek Mason?

I think Mason got over $3M with his extension this offseason. It's all scuttlebutt though since Vandy can keep that stuff private. They have to go on old tax returns, which are typically like 2 or 3 years old. That's Mason salary from his first contract.

Will Muschamp, South Carolina: $3,100,000
Matt Luke, Ole Miss: $3,000,000

These are the only two I could realistically see on the chopping block. Idk if Carolina would do it though.

Matt Luke is such a positive energy guy, they wont get rid of him. Theyve tried the fancy hires.

My feeling is Matt Luke. With an outside chance on Will Muschamp although that would be major mistake. Really think maybe one or none. This league has got some dynamite football coaches. The lowest paid guy in the league, Odom, is a damn good coach. One or two guys might get hired away. For instance Gus might have a terrific years and leave or Mason break even and go to an easier place to win

Were did these numbers come from . Didn’t Gus get a deal for 6-7 million a year ? I don’t think Smart makes less then 4 million a year. Looking at that list Coach O and Smart over performed with top 10 finishes .

Gus , Luke and Mason are about the only ones that could get fired. To many new coaches to have a lot of hot seats .

Two things to point out- Kirby makes a lot more than $3.7 million and no way Mullen makes more than Kirby.

Odom now maked 3.05 mil. And he will not get fired outside of a 2-10 season.

Matt Luke is probably gone after this season unless they pull off a miracle.

Gus is a possibility if the season goes south.

Muschamp is safe because who else are they going to get.

Saban is of course safe.

Mullen is safe though a bad season will put him on the hot seat next year.

Jimbo is safe because they aren’t paying that ridiculous buyout

Moorehead is safe but a bad season putshim on the hot seat

Morris is safe but a bad season puts him on the hot seat next year

Stoops is safe because who else are they going to get

Pruitt will start feeling the heat if he doesn’t improve this year

Smart is safe

Odom is safe

Orgeron is safe unless the season goes horribly wrong but anything less than 10 regular season wins and his seat will start getting warm next season

Mason is safe because Vandy just doesn’t really care.

Gus Bus signs a contract 7y for 49 m

By my math that should be close to 7m a year.

Coach O and Moorhead deserve a lot of credit. Both are taking smaller salaries so that their assistant coaches can earn more.

Also, 2.7 mil in Starkvegas is equal to about 5 mil anywhere else and after a certain point , more money is not going to change someone’s family tree going forward.

Plus these two coaches will earn more money if they keep winning.
