I don't get this. There has to be something else here, something that only the threat of Discovery in Federal Court will shake loose.

The whole lack of institutional control is a nothing burger! Just look around, and you’ll see every legal expert saying that it’s laughable for the SEC to run with the lack of institutional control argument. The SEC is digging themselves into a hole that they will not be able to climb out of.
The other thing that no one‘s talking about, is that ESPN has no doubt, already been on the phone with Greg Sankey, telling him exactly what’s going to happen if they kick LSU out. ESPN will immediately file charges in federal district court for a breach of contract. The very best case scenario for the SEC, is if ESPN is willing to renegotiate the TV rights package. But even then, it is going to be a massive drop in revenue for each member institution. I can’t see any of the other 15 members actually going through with this vote. But you never know, when you have an ego driven, completely arse hurt individual like Sankey at the helm.
