I'm guessing part of the bait here (on their part) is supposed to be them picking Saban over Bryant at Alabama, but I'm not sure if anyone would disagree at this point.

Saban is obviously the better coach, but the most successful coach in LSU history by any objective measure is Les Miles.

This.

Miles has a better winning percentage, the same number of titles (conference and national) and another near national title that Saban didn't have in his time at LSU.

Of course a lot of those wins got vacated this year, so maybe you could argue Saban if you took those away. It would actually be pretty close between Saban and Orgeron.

The reality is that Urban Meyer never has the success he had at Florida without the foundation that Spurrier built there. Florida was pretty irrelevant until Spurrier took the job, and in the process, he revolutionized the game. He's one of the most consequential coaches, not just at Florida, but in college football history.

dumb. Orgeron's 2019 would beat Saban's 2003, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2017 teams. 2020 is a given since he beat a better 2019 Saban led team.

I firmly believe Kirby will leave Georgia as the best coach in program history, but if he retired today, I think it would be an interesting discussion between him and Dooley.

Yes, Kirby’s won more natties than Dooley in a fraction of the time, but there is something to be said for being a consistent winner over a quarter of a century the way Dooley was. The man was still winning SEC titles in his 19th year at UGA.

If Kirby wins another, there really won’t be any more argument, but give Dooley his due. He’s a big part of UGA being the brand and program it was when Kirby came in and took it to the next level.

Do your RA’s ever lead to disciplinary action against offenders?

Finishing 2nd in the nation still means you had a dang good team.

FSU's streak of seasons finishing in the top 4 is impressive.

It's not something you brag about in a single year, but it should be taken into account when looking at how good a coach was. Getting a step away from a title isn't as good as a title, but it's still an indicator of a great coaching effort.

Kind of like Saban making it to the playoff at Alabama in the seasons his team didn't win. That adds to his resume.

Mostly because you can't compare eras in college football. Give Nick Saban the ALABAMA program in 1958, with 1958 rules, and watch him put all those teams together in the beauty pageant Bowl era.

Now let Coach Bryant play for a national title every year he wins the SEC Championship. In the '70s alone coach Bryant would have gone to 8 BCS or 4-team playoffs.

Don't you mean, the foundation that Ron Zook laid?
Spurrier left in 2001 and Meyer took over in 2005.

Dooley has the advantage for now only because of longevity. He had a terrible record against final ranked teams.

The only think Dooley has over Kirby at this point is longevity.

Dooley had 8 seasons where UGA finished in the top 10, 4 in the top 5.

Smart has had UGA in the top 10 in 6 of his 7 seasons at UGA and 4 in the top 5. 7 seasons compared to 25.

That means if Kirby coached 18 more seasons and had 0 top 5 finishes and 2 top 10 finishes... he'd be equal to Dooley on those numbers.

Kirby already has the same number of post-season wins as Dooley did (8).

I think Kirby #1 is a pretty easy call.

Can't argue with the Bear for Kentucky. I will add that Stoops has passed him for all time wins though, so who knows when all is said and done as far as UK legacy goes.

1950 SEC and National Champions

Coach Bryant was there for 8 years playing 10-game seasons. Mark Stoops 10 years and 12 game schedules.
