Something tells there are a lot of QBs that could break 100 yards in their first start

Did you actually watch the entire game to understand just how unusual the game script was in that game? The Dolphins had an 89% win probability just a few minutes into the 2nd quarter. The playcalling was in lead protection mode for 3 quarters. Why would you let your rookie QB in his first start be a gunslinger throwing downfield with Aaron Donald breathing down his neck when frankly the only possible way to lose would be a bunch of disastrous turnovers by the QB?

The Dolphins defense/special teams basically scored 3 TDs (a fumble return TD, punt return TD, and an INT return to the 1 yard line). When you lose 3 possessions to DST TDs and are trying to conserve a big lead for 3 quarters, that is exactly the type game script that gives you very low numbers for a QB. Patrick freaking Mahomes scored 12 fantasy points against Denver a couple weeks ago from negative game script.

Tua missed a few throws and had 4 drops and the fumble from Donald, but outside of that the playcalling didn't even attempt to get him into any downfield throwing rhythm. The Fins were happy to just take the win against a really good Rams defense and try to develop Tua in future games.

If this week the Dolphins fall behind the Cardinals a couple scores and Tua has to attempt 40 passes to win the game on his back and looks terrible doing it, I will be the first to say he is not playing up to his draft level. But there was nothing to evaluate last week.

Yeah sure the Dolphins are on the verge of making a playoff run and benched a 16-year veteran who won his last two starts just so they could evaluate whether to keep a $30 million investment. You’re a moron.

If he was good, they would already know from practice

Agree. So which scenario makes more logical sense to you:

-Their #5 pick looks terrible in practice, so they bench their veteran starter midseason who has them on pace for the playoffs, just to make sure he does suck as bad as they think he sucks.

Or...

-Their #5 pick looks great in practice so despite the fact that the veteran has them in the playoff hunt, they bench him to let the rookie play since they think he is ready. And as an additional reason to let him play, it gives them a better chance to evaluate him just to confirm he plays as well as they think he will, since they have a top 5 pick with Trevor Lawrence as a possibility.

We'll get Burrow vs Tua head to head in a few weeks. Of course, in this area they probably won't show it, but stick us with the stupid Saints.

Burrow probably throws for more yards since they'll have him passing 50 times in the game because the Cincy running game sucks. Miami seems to want to be more balanced so Tua will probably throw 30-35 times. We'll see.

It's really no longer surprising that LSU fans wish injury on players.

This is Brian Flores emulating his mentor, Bill Belichick. Belichick would scout top QBs in the draft every year just in case he ever had to face them when they got to the NFL.

The Dolphins aren't going to seriously consider replacing their hand picked #5 overall draft pick after one year, especially since they aren't changing regimes.

Tua is a sniper, his arm and accuracy are elite. Long ball specialist. Hell his midget brother is too.

Tua’s arm strength is far from elite.

But it is good - he has large hands. His accuracy is elite. His spatial awareness is elite. His ability to read defenses is IMO, his greatest question mark. Of course his height is a drawback, and though he is not fast, he moves well in the pocket. He has a tendency to hold on to the ball too long, wanting to always make a play. It has caused injuries and bad plays (e.g., sack vs UGA in OT, fumbles and injuries).

He looked tiny on an NFL field. But when I saw him in a HS all-star game, I thought the same thing. But things obviously turned out well in college.

MillerLiteTime had a good analysis of why the LA game does not mean much as to where Tua truly is at this time.

Time will tell.

Sometimes it's unclear whether LSU fans are more eaten up with jealousy or stupidity.

Saban didn't break Burrow after he humiliated him 29-0 with a 39 QBR. Doubt that he broke Tua who had a 92 QBR in a win and threw for 400+ yards and 4 TDs in the loss to LSU.

Such BS. The kid just needs time. He's more than good enough to play in the NFL. I bet the Jets would take him right now.

He never looked like an NFL QB and he's brittle like a clay pot.

He had a good run.
