these games are lose-lose situations for these teams

You gain nothing for beating them and lose everything for losing to them

Based on your definition here, you mean a "no-win", not a "lose-lose" situation.

Why doesn't Bama, Ole Miss or Miss State ever schedule USM anymore? Even though they went winless last season, they are still overall a solid football program who has very good fan support. Seems to me the Mississippi schools or Alabama would be more interested in playing them than Div 1AA schools

Because it does absolutely nothing for Ole Miss, State or Alabama to play them. If we win, it's because we were supposed to and we don't gain anything from it. If we lose, they gain momentum in recruiting and get national attention from the win.
So playing them doesn't make sense.

Maybe with traffic. I've done that drive late at night during the week in 2:15 minutes.

Correct, Ole Miss and Ms. State are better off playing Jacksonville State and Maine to avoid the potential embarrassing losses to the premier program in the state, USM.

in reality if southern were to actually beat ole miss or state, the bigger schools fear a drop in their recruiting base, which is understandable; same reason auburn or bama will not schedule troy or UAB

I know obviously that Ole Miss and Miss St get all the attention in the state, but how much coverage does Southern Miss get?

Southern Miss is actually the second largest school in state

Southern Miss is what it is a mid major school in a state with 2 SEC schools. They are the red headed step child in Mississippi

Isn't Auburn the cellar? They were awful in all 3 major sports.
