Huh? Different games. At different times of day. Even on two different channels. How is it impossible to watch both games?

That was the point. The LSU fan said all eyes will be on LSU/Clemson as if OSU/Texas didn't matter and I pointed out that it is impossible for all eyes to be on that game when OSU/Texas are playing since they aren't playing at the same time.

I should have been more clear I guess

In all honesty, who wants to watch LSU lose their 4th season opener in a row?

Texas lost 1st and 2nd round DB draft picks off that team, so I don't expect this group to be quite as good. Also, both Tate and Ebuka had pretty good games, so if you try to shut down Smith you open it up for his teammates.

PK will have something up his sleeve. When he was at UW he consistently shut down Mike Leaches air raid every year. When it comes to game planning for passing attacks, there is hardly a better DC in CFB.

I read that Ohio State only returns 6 starters.
They are starting a freshman QB.
If Texas goes in there ranked #1 and loses again to these guys then Texas should be kicked out of the SEC.

Your buddy already posted that. There is a reason Orgeron was fired. I hate to break it to you but he is a moron

It's about the Jimmies and the Joes.

There weren't many passing attacks being shut down his first three years at Texas. Michael Penix laughs out loud at the idea PK shuts down passing attacks.

I can't remember the last time LSU won a season opener. In the last 2 years, Texas has won early season OOC games at Bama and at Michigan.

Its about getting you're guys in the system, not the old coaches hand me downs.

As far as Penix, anyone who watched that game knows that was one of the best playoff performances in CFB. A lot of throws were perfect where a defender couldn't do a thing about it.

Last year Texas focused so much energy on stopping Smith, that it left opportunities for the other guys to take advantage.

We’ll see how the chess match works with different personnel in the secondary this time around.

I don’t see how Barron’s contribution can be replaced in this matchup, especially in game 1.

But the pass rush should equalize that a good amount.

While I agree to an extent, I do not believe Penix has that same performance against the 2024 team. That secondary had issues all season long. Washington/Penix/their WRs were a bad matchup going into that game, and it was a bad matchup coming out of that game, too.

My point is PK isn't the magic bullet you're making him out to be. I love him as our DC, but the OSU wide receivers are very good, Sayin has a lot of talent. I believe Texas is going to win this game. But I'm not taking the OSU wide receivers for granted as much as you are. That's for sure.

Not just Barron. I'd argue Mukuba was just as important in different ways. Ended up being a 2nd round draft choice and was projected as being a potential rookie starter for the Eagles before his recent hamstring injury. Mukuba transferring from Clemson helped to transform that secondary.

I do like the pieces Texas has. McDonald and Williams at safety. Taaffe at nickel. Muhammed locking down one side and Guilbeau/Black battling it out for the other (Guilbeau will be the starter game 1). But while they have a lot of talent, they do not have as much experience heading into the season last year's DBs had. And last year's group faced Ohio State at the end of the year. Not the opening game.

Not to mention, Texas replaced it's entire secondary coaching staff, too.

I'm highly confident. But just because I'm highly confident doesn't mean there can't be question marks that have to be answered. If someone wants to look at this Texas roster to find weak spots, they're there. Then it becomes whether someone thinks they're all going to be addressed adequately, like me, or they think those chinks could lead to Ls. That's why they play the games, right? I'm just grateful to be able to be here for another college football season, and the team I root for should be right in the mix. I don't take either scenario for granted.

Howard was capable, had more weapons, better OL and a MUCH better D. Just sayin.
