quote:AU doesn't either. Its an Alabama Legislature issue at this point and it needs to be addressed. BTW, Bohannon has only made one NCAA tourney thus far but he's perfect for UA (or AU). UK will attest I'm sure. He's rebuilding the roster like Thompson had to do at AU. He'll find baseball players through hard work and evaluation. He finds players in Canada every year.
Id assume Auburn is pretty similar in this regard, but Bama wont even waive OOS tuition for these guys even when they have the option to. UA admin doesnt give a rats arse about baseball

Does anyone actually think the shift should stay in baseball? I’m interested to hear opinions

8-2 Cocks in the 5th
This season is over for Georgia far as I can tell; even if we finish with a respectable record, we have no established starting arms behind Cannon and our offense is wildly inconsistent/incapable of driving in runs. We will get boatraced in any tournament set up, be it SEC or NCAA.

He's done a very good job recruiting with the built in issues we have. There has been some frustration about development, but in his defense he signed a Top 10 pick LHP who is going to throw a grand total of 1 SEC game in 3 seasons due to COVID and TJ.

Positions are on the score card so why shouldn’t they be actual positions?

The shift is fine. No issue with it. To me it’s no different than double play depth or choosing to not hold a base runner or playing up against a bunt. It’s basic strategy that works enough to keep it around. Do folks get mad when a hitter can’t hit a slider so he sees a steady diet of sliders?

So put boxes in the infield they have to start in? Lines to designate right center and left field?

quote:This is the difference between AU, UA and most of the SEC. Neither program can sustain injuries. If Auburn or Alabama get their first line starters injured, particularly pitching, we can't recover. I won't bore you with AU last year but it bit us in the backside. Both of our programs are half as deep as who we compete. I celebrate the success of both programs.

Georgia as a state has too much raw talent to ever field bad athletic teams, academics are a different story, but y’all should be able to just drive a bus around the state and recruit great players.

I mean would you be fine with a team playing 5 infielders if someone was on third? Or 5 outfielders if all they needed was to stop extra base hits?
Yes I do think positions should have to stay in a certain area

Jacob Gonzales just hit his 3rd homerun of the game. A shame that our pitchers are absolute trash though and we are still losing.

Absolutely. Why not? Let a coach actually coach. If a strategy works why not? Are you agaothe intentional walk? How about subbing in a better baserunner? Are you ok with a player backing up a play? Or a cutoff man on throws from the outfield?

I’m all for the shift. If a guy can’t punch it opposite side (or hell lay down a decent bunt) then you deserve your out. MLB has been catering way too much to the hitters, defense is still a huge part of the game and if the pitcher makes a good pitch to get you to pull it right into the shift then he deserves to get his out

I think in time the shift will just make good hitters better hitters. It also adds an extra element to the game that I like.
