If I were a UTrans fan, I would hope that my coach would play which ever QB gives the team the best chance of winning the game. If he doesn't, he should probably be fired.

Or they don’t want him to be exposed on a national stage again when he can just wait to light it up in the Spring Game so the hype train is rolling all summer.

“The #1 overall recruit needs 3 years on campus before he’s ready”

Any different last name and this wouldn’t even be a talking point.

Boiler, you're a little harsh but yet I mostly agree. I want to disect this one.

quote:

Quinn Ewers is not a championship caliber QB and definitely not an NFL player

I'm afraid I agree. You say it rather bluntly, but it is what it is. The media blew it on this one, and they refuse to let go when they're wrong. But yes, they're wrong.

quote:

He lacks the 'it factor', has no fire, heart or passion for the game
It's almost like he's a zombie with no pulse playing QB, absolutely emotionless

He has his own approach to the game, and I won't say he has no passion. But he does rate low on the "fight" scale. Also I think he's afraid of (more) injury, because he plays timid.

quote:

Anyone who's watched Texas grasped this reality long ago and understands that the only thing the Horns are lacking is a competent quarterback

Ewers is great for a 9-3, 8-4 Texas team. But now we've gone elite, and he can't keep up. He is not going to complement our top-shelf defense. They deserve a QB to finish what they start, and not give away points while our D is on the bench. Ewers is a notch above pedestrian, while the Texas defense is 3 levels above. He can't hang at this level of ball.

It was a mistake for Ewers to come back. He has lowered his stock. It was a mistake he ever went to Ohio State. Probably a mistake that he skipped his senior year of HS. For as mild mannered and timid as he seems, he's been known to make self-serving decisions designed to maximize his situation. This should have been Arch's year from the get-go. Frankly - I think Ewers would come back again next year if Texas would go for it. But I think Sark has "managed" this.

Secondly, Arch should have won out the starting spot around mid-season this year. While he had a few bumps, he offset those with flashes of greatness. He certainly showed that he wasn't going to lose a game that Ewers would win. All we could do is gain with Arch.

But Sark has his ways, and we are going to live/die with Ewers this year. Between Clemson and Arizona State, I think we will lose one of those, and it will be directly attributed to QB play - won't be any way to fudge around it, like so many try to do.

Quinn's great. And perfectly capable of leading the team to a few more wins.

If he makes one more scramble per game and took one more hit, all the folks who say he has "no fire" would be satisfied.

He's been coached to avoid big hits. He's doing what Sark is telling him to do.

GTFO with that, Quinn was playing great until his two injuries slowed him down.

Ok let's go that route. So what good does Ewers bring us now? Blame on injury if you want.

He will play the next 1-2 games like we know he can. Let's agree on that.

No, Because that train already left the station 5-6 games ago. And Sark passed on it.

After 15 years of piss and mediocrity, Sark ain't going nowhere. And he knows that. So all that remains to be seen is - what makes us good now? Is it Sark, or is it NIL?

If I was going to be the Texas coach, this is when I would want to do it. Let the money work for me.

Sark is going to play whoever gives Texas the best chance to win. If he thought it was Archie, he would be playing.

Sark was a QB in his past life. Right or wrong, he has convictions that go beyond win/lose.

Especially since he has job security out the arse.

And besides, the problem with winning too much too soon - the fans then expect it. Is he in a hurry for that?

Whorns haven’t won dick in almost two decades and you’re worried about “winning too much, too soon”

Sark went 5-7 and 8-5 before uncapped pay-for-play saved his arse

Wow that was a brain fart moment. I am going to blame it on being too old. I meant Josh Allen, sorry. Ironically I didn't use Patrick Mahomes because I was worried I would get his name wrong.

Anyways, I went and looked. PFF has Ewers as the 5th rated QB on their draft board. ESPN has him as #3. Sporting News has him as a 1st round pick to the Steelers at #28, which is the 4th QB off the board. CBS is the first draft I see that has him in the second round, but they also only have 2 QBs in the first round, which is highly unlikely.

That's a legit take on UTa's situation and it's good football discussion.

There's an old football saying when it comes to stuff like this. "Dance with the one what brung ya."

He can't bench Ewers, he's gotta start him. But if he kept him on a short leash, that would be another story.

Spurrier was famous for doing that with his QBs.

That's Darrell Royal. Thanks for quoting him. You must not be pulling for Clempson.
