I bet OU and Tex will get what they want, more times than not.

It wouldn't surprise me if Stricklin wanted 1-7 now since we're playing 2 P5 OOC annually. And obviously our permanent would be UGA.

The dysfunctional group down in Destin will have their hands full in this one. They have to consider NIL and the magic portal and then get to the real hog killing, 8 or 9.

If it's 8 a lot of rivals are going away. At least every other year. But let's be honest, for most SEC teams, they don't have 3 real rivals anyway and never have.

I think it will be 9 games, greed is just too hard to regulate.

To me, this should have been sorted out prior to allowing two new teams in the league.
All the more proof that the health and tradition of the conference isn't even in the backseat of this conversation. It's tied up in the trunk with its mouth taped shut.

Did Saban complaining frick this up for everyone?

Alabama was the only team rumored to have all Big-6 teams assigned as perm rivals. Why the F wouldn’t Saban complain about that competitive disadvantage?

1. Texass: you will play whenever the SEC Office says you will play. Go to the back of the line.

2. We have never had 8 schools in favor of the 9 game schedule, 3-6-6.

3. Part of the problem now is that ABC-ESPN-Disney does NOT want to add $$$ to our contract for OU and Texass and playing 9 games.

4. I hope LSU will vote for 8 games, 1-7-7. That is what is best for the SEC top-to-bottom.

Number 3 is the real factor. Rumors are that the Mouse ain't interested in paying for an additional conference game. Who knows if that is actually true, I've just seen Twitter and message board rumors. It doesn't make sense, at all. Moving to nine games virtually ensures the 3-6-6 model, which means more guaranteed marquee match-ups every single season. Which means more eyeballs. Which means more money for Disney.

Right now, the divisions guarantee annual Georgia-Vanderbilt, Georgia-Mizzou, and Georgia-Kentucky games, to the exclusion of say Georgia-Alabama or Georgia-LSU during the regular season. Those Big 6 cross-divisional games currently only happen once every seven seasons. Under the 3-6-6 model, you are guaranteed those games at least every other season. And no more annual Georgia-Vanderbilt.

According to the Athletic, Alabama, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Mizzou, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M have expressed support for the nine-game schedule. Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss have publicly supported the eight-game schedule. The remaining schools have not publicly stated an opinion.

We keep hearing that, but is that the truth? Or does the SEC look at the 9th game as leverage to change the contract? That's a big deal.

If ESPN isn't buying then simply start with an 8 game schedule and if down the line they want more, they can pay for it.

I really hope we stay at 8 for at least a few more years. Otherwise all 12 of our regular season games will be against P5 next year.

Is that a bad thing?

The directional school matchups lose interest before halftime and end up getting someone injured more often than not as one team is playing a lot harder later in a game than the other team.

The game reps are good for experience for younger guys, but few schools keep running their same playbook, so even that utility is somewhat limited.

Once upon a time, we only played other "major" conference schools + ND or the service academies. Go pull a Mizzou schedule from anytime prior to about 1994.

In '93, their non-conference games were: Texas A&M, SMU, Illinois, and West Virginia. That was a pretty routine slate. In the 70s and 80s, Mizzou would put teams like Miami, Texas, and Notre Dame on the schedule. In '78, we had #5 Notre Dame, #1 Bama, Ole Miss, and Illinois as the non-conference slate.

In 2023, we face South Dakota, Middle Tennessee, Kansas State, and Memphis. What a load of shite. I'd rather watch Mizzou go 4-8 against a slate like '78 than watch us go 7-5 with the 2023 non-conference schedule propping us up.

It's certainly not a smart thing, considering most of the SEC only plays 1 P5 OOC annually.

A team with a losing record to vandy doesn’t get to tell the sec what to do
