They also have very good special teams (#20 I think), and are efficient late in games. That's a very small change from past years but you guys lost a whole lot of 4th qtr games where it was all you needed. YOU RIDIN

LSU would have finished 11-2 last year with an accurate field goal kicker.

He averages 15.0 yards per completion

Tua averages 17.9
Ta'amu averages 17.6
Mond averages 14.7
Lock averages 13.6
Stidham averages 12.2

So yea, boom or bust with a lot of incompletions and a few 7 yard slants mixed in. Not a whole lot of quick hitting easy throws.

I appreciate statistics and quantitative analysis, but I also understand there are limits of what sort of data is being cataloged. Therefore, I recognize that trying to qualify a player strictly by looking at spreadsheets and tableaux (without watching the games) will leave one with a limited perspective.

Having had Stephen Johnson as a starter I completely concur. Johnson’s numbers told you very little as to his overall value.

On sports-reference, they show y/a. Then directly to the right of it they show ay/a.

Is that air yards per attempt? I can't figure it out.

ETA: For reference, Jalen's was 8.2 last season. And we know the type of passes HE was throwing.

But Jalen had a lot of easy throws (swings to backs, stop routes, etc) and Jalen completed a lot of throws against bad teams.

It's "adjusted yards per attempt" which, apparently, is calculated via

ANY/A = (pass yards + 20*(pass TD) - 45*(interceptions thrown) - sack yards) / (passing attempts + sacks)

yet people think he's good at the position. There isn't a single metric that says he's a good QB.
1st half miami:
8-17
6 different receivers
101 yds
13 yd avg
4 completions over 10 yds

1st half slu:
11-20
6 different receivers
165 yds
16 yd avg
7 completions over 10 yds

auburn:
15-35
7 different receivers
249 yds
17 yd avg
8 completions over 10 yds

total:
36-72
11 different receivers
515 yds
14 yd avg
19 completions over 10 yds

1. ens is spreading it around
2. ens is getting the ball downfield
3. over half of these completions were 10 or more yards
4. lsu played 2 really good defenses
5. burrow just arrived
6. lots of new faces on the offense
7. ens is new to the job
8. 1st 3 games of the season
9. 2 toughest games on the road
10. the tigers have a lot of room for improvement. scary

looking at the numbers in context - definitely respectable

Yeah, Alabama's given up less points against better offenses ;)

When you also arent completing a lot of passes, that stat will be affected, but we are not very often throwing short passes.

Look at yards per completion, he is at 15 yards per completion which is towards the top of all QBs in the conference. He is obviously throwing it downfield a lot, all you had to watch was the Auburn game to see that. AU interfered 4 times for 51 yards of pass interference against us so there's some hidden yardage there from throwing downfield.
